I’m really hoping someone has an answer

We are moving to a rural area near Jarvis Ontario and as a side note - are on a very limited income.

Why is it if one wishes to live more simply - why does it have to cost more for less?

It is the cost of putting in the infostructure.

For example I live at the end of a crescent, there are very few houses on our end of the street, we do not have gas although 3 houses down on the corner does. Some neighbours looked into having gas come down 3 houses to the crescent cost was going to be between 12K to 24k per house to bring gas down 3 houses to us. That was if everyone agreed and paid for every house that said now the cost went up to those saying yes.

I do not live rural but I know a number of people who do who still do not have access to cable, reliable internet again because the cost is so high to put in the infostructure especially when houses are further apart and there was less house to share the common costs.

I am aware of a friend's sibling living in farm/rural area of Hamilton and their Internet is limited because if they go over their alloted amount per month, there are overage charges. I don't know the supplier. They are very careful not to let just anyone visiting use their Internet because of the charge issue as they need it for their own use.

You will have a library branch of Haldimand Public Library to visit (though it's closed on Tues/Wed). https://www.haldimandcounty.ca/haldi...-1bdbc420-6567

Might wish to test their Internet speed on their computers and check doing a speedtest who their provider is!

Found this site listing places offering Internet in Jarvis:

@endi2000 Is it possible for your family to take the GO train from Niagara to Toronto at least once before your move? Just to see a big city and do a daytrip?

Found this broadband internet piece on the County government site:
    https://www.haldimandcounty.ca/broadband/

Doing a quick look for banks in Jarvis-only a CIBC, not an RBC or TD (those latter two usually have wi-fi). Hmm Yellow Pages must be wrong. CIBC website is not showing a Jarvis branch in its listings.

I lived in Scarborough for many years - and have been to Toronto and environs quite a few times over the years. I’m not a real fan of big cities - St Cath, Hamilton and the like, are about as large as I like. And with COVID I am loathe to try transit until things settle down or the anti vaxxers get off their high horse and help us get rid/minimize the dangers of the virus

And the good news - there is a new internet provider player in the game. They have been seen setting up the infrastructure on the country roads - we’re hoping their rates won’t be any higher than what we are paying for the slow and intermittent service we get

We have a new provider in our area but he still cannot provide us with lower cost/reliable internet because there are many large trees in the area..the way tree harvesting is going that should not be a problem in a couple of years. In the meantime, we are being held hostage by the only provider we can get and charged thru the nose for it.
