Oh, downtown Vancouver shoppers cannot use any escalators, only one emergency stairwell. Yikes.Last edited by Ciel21; Mon, May 12th, 2025 at 04:36 PM.

The Bay here has no elevators and both the up and down escalators are blocked and shut off. I heard it's considered unsafe to use shut off escalators as stairs. You have to enter what looked like a staff only area, walk by their loading dock then take the stairs to get between levels.

Hamilton's Lime Ridge location had escalators shut off winter 2024 after holiday and allowed downward descent on one escalator. I declined to use so headed to mall elevator to get to lower level then return.
I read about the Vancouver store stairwell as only access to 7 levels. Do not know if security or someone monitors people flow on stairs for fire code safety. Can't imagine an big purchase moving on stairs as shoppers head in opposite direction on same stairs.
So, Canadian Tire bought the intellectual propery of what is associated with Hudson Bay Co.
