I had this on my baby registry and was so excited when I got it. I figured it would be the perfect thing to help my baby settle down and go to sleep at night. I could not have been more wrong about that. Not only does it not make him sleepy it actually does the opposite, he gets so excited by it that it takes twice as long to get him to sleep after watching it. It does have it's upsides though, it will keep him entertained safely in the crib while I switch over a load of laundry or make coffee first thing in the morning. It has a few different songs that it can play and none of them are horribly obnoxious like some kids toys can be. It has 3 play options: just music, music and lights or music, lights and movement from the fish. It also has adjustable volume and comes with a remote so that you can turn it off and on without entering the room. If you have a baby who moves a lot in his sleep make sure the aquarium is out of reach to avoid having it accidentally turned on in the middle of the night. Parents with convertible cribs have reported having some problems attaching the aquarium but I don't have a convertible crib so I can't say one way or another with that.
The aquarium takes 4 C batteries and the remote requires 2 AAA batteries. The battery life is average.
Pros
-the volume can be adjusted
-remote allows you to operate the unit without entering the room and possibly waking a sleeping baby
-18 minutes of playback
-plays several different songs as well as ocean sounds
-entertains the baby while he or she is safely in the crib
Cons
-doesn't work on every baby
-accidental turn-ons are common if the aquarium is not placed out of reach
-can be difficult to attach to some cribs

It did the exact same thing for my son! LOL He got all excited watching it go....then when he got big enough to realize that he could smack the button to turn it on and off, I had to remove it completely from the crib, because that button provided way too much entertainment for him hahaha
Thank god my mom found it at a liquidation outlet for $15. Because I wouldn't have let her pay the $45 for it!

I have stage three of this aquarium (the one before yours) and I must say for us it was absolutely wonderful. In one year of using it we only went through one set of batteries, which was great. It soothed our son to sleep from about 6 months on, and when he'd wake up in the night he would turn it back on to soothe himself back to sleeping land again.
We got ours for 19.99 when they were clearing them out for the new stage.
From the picture you posted, I hope you don't mind me saying but It looks boring in a way, mine had multiple fish.
-played many different songs
-lights
-bubbles
-characters moved
-soothing ocean noise.
Its a shame they changed a good thing, while of course this product won't be good for every child I think i'd still be living off of three hours sleep a night if we didnt have it.
Whats the age range on the product? We didn't start using ours until he was about 9 months. Before that it would of just kept him up, maybe try using it again in a few months?Last edited by Sally888; Thu, Oct 9th, 2008 at 01:40 PM.

Yeah, I learned that lesson the hard way the first night we used it. He started shrieking and banging his legs on the mattress and cried when I turned it off. It took an hour to get him to go to sleep after that. Needless to say, we don't use it at night anymore. Luckily he turned out to be a really good sleeper anyway so we haven't needed anything.

Hopefully you can try it later! I know my youngest was a horrible sleeper (just sleeping through the night at 21 or so months) and this aquarium was a god send for us. He learned how to soothe himself to sleep because of this toy. Of course we weaned him off of it and he doesn't use it anymore (all in the past month hes now 28 months) and graduated to a toddler bed since he learned that not only was the aquarium good for soothing it was great to use as a stool to climb out of the crib EEP!
We first had a Sassy lullabye sheep thing, which was great but the balls that spun around kept getting stuck then he'd be mad.

I also have the pne prior to this. I went to 3 or 4 Toys R Us to find it. It was the last one in Quebec! My sister had it as well, and that is why I bought it.
After they move out of the crib, you can attach it to their bed. My son only started to use it at around 6 months. He figured out he can turn it on by kicking it! In the morning, if he is in a good mood when he wakes up, he plays with the star shells.

Argh! Our aquarium broke tonight! (model H6318). FP e-mailed a proof of destruction letter to mail to them and they will replace it with this newer version. It looks boring compared to the older one. Arghhhh
I have to remove the straps and mail them to prove I destroyed it. You can not use it without the straps. I wish I had the older version.

Ok, I got the newer version. I thought it would not be as effective. I must say this plays music the longest out of all mobiles and crib attachements! I wish I had the newer version all along!
The panel really lights up nicely and it attracts the baby's attention versus my older model.
I doubt I will have to use the remote as it plays for a long long time. At this age, if he is not asleep after 18 min he is not ready for bed. But for a newborn at 2 am it could have been very helpful!

Grandma just bought this for DD for Christmas. I thought it looked great. Nice dim lighting and great sound. Hopefully it works out for her.

we have 3 different versions of this (bought the first one 6 yrs ago for my oldest granddaughter) and all my granddaughters have loved all of them.
the music is soft, the light is soft, now they are a little older then seem to be able to turn it on themselves to sooth them back to sleep
My 6 yr old granddaughter only gave hers up last yr when the baby was born.Winster Referral - click here

My son has the Ocean wonders aquarium from a couple of years a ago. I guess it would be a year older than the one in the picture. Anywho. My son loved it. I was like miracle worker! He loves falling asleep to it. It has all the same things that rachel described, and it wodnerful. My son is going to be 3 in april and he still like to fall asleep with it on. It's going to be hard for him when he gets into his big boy bed soon.

My son still likes this toy! It's on his nightstand and he uses it like a reverse alarm clock! Even in his sleep he'll hit the button to keep the music going lol
