Budget for stock pile?

I'm not sure if this is the right section so if the mods want to move it, please do.

I was just wondering how everyone goes about building their stock pile. Do you build an amount into your budget for what you will allow yourself to spend? What if you have come across a really, really good deal but have already spent your budget for the week? I am having trouble building a stock pile and wondering how people go about starting to build it.

i find it has just been a go with the flow kind of thing for me.

for a particular item, as long as you have one for now, and one for later you are set for a few weeks (normally) i'm talking about household and personal items. after that you have the luxury of hanging onto your coupons and waiting for those good sales that usually come every 3-4 months.

i think of my stockpile in terms of months of use. i don't need more than 6months to a year worth of stuff, for myself. it's a slow build so i have never thought of it in terms of a specific budget. i do think of what the max price is that i would pay for particular items.

if you add 2-3 items per week, you will likely have a lot added by the end of 3 months. you obviously still need to have money in your pocket by the end of the week, so adding a couple of things at a time is sometimes the route you have to go.

i would say that if you have at least 3 months worth of something, and money is tight this week, you can afford to wait for the next sale. everything come up on sale 3-4 times a year, and coupons are continuously coming out on certain products.

That sounds like a good way to do it. I'll think I will try it out and add 2-3 things per week to see how it goes. Thanks for your advice.

I always have a budget of $5 a week for my stock pile. A lot of weeks I don't get anything, but usually once a month there will be a really good item that I use and cn stock up on, nd if I haven't purchased anything yet, I would have the entire $20. I'm not one that will use up precious. Space for say....75 resolve when that would last me 3 lifetimes, lol. I have 8' and those 8 will probably last me through this year and into next, and by then it will probably. Be free again.

A lot of people don't realize that even products like resolve have a shelf life.....the older the product gets, the less effective it becomes on our laundry. Same as all the mouth wash and per whitening listerine no point in having 100 unless you use. A bottle every few days, it will become useless.

That money is then wasted be ause they never use it .

Holly got it in one. Stockpile only the stuff you can use and in reasonable quantites. i've been following flyers and working out when various items are on sale.

Thanks for the advice. It's funny that you mentioned resolve because I have a whole bunch of coupons waiting to be used when it goes on sale. But I have 3 little kids and I go through so much of it. I really want to start a stock pile because it makes me so mad to have to pay full price even though it was just on sale a couple weeks back. I'm really hoping that I can start planning better because I'm horrible at it.

You could track how long it takes you to go through certain items such as laundry soap, toothpaste, body wash etc. and then you will have an idea how much you need to stock up on for your family.

total up the coupons/ price matching you are doing.. take 1/2 of the money you save to put toward stockpile stuff..
