I think there are pros and cons to having kids when you are younger and when you are a bit older. For me, right now I am glad I waited to 29 and 32. I have tons of energy, I don't resent not being able to travel like I used to, buy clothes, go clubbing, doing my hair every two weeks, Instead now it is about paying mortgage, saving for my children's schooling, meeting their emotional, physical and financial needs first etc. My hubby and I had a blast in our twenties and I am so happy we waited because we were self absorbed at that time and clearly not ready to give the 100% of ourselves that is required when you have the privilage in life to have children. You never know how long you are going to live. I lost my mom when she was 57 yrs old. So there is no guarantee if you have kids early you will be in the greatest position either.
But sometimes if you wait too long it is more difficult to have children and it can be heartbreaking for the couple trying to concieve....whatever you choose best of luck

I never felt "mommyish" either. I LOVE kids but never saw myself with my own. Had my first at 25. Even after having him I didn't really feel "mommyish" i felt more like "holy s**t scaredish" LOL!!!
Love them all and wouldn't trade any for the world.
best thing to do is to sit down and talk with your hubby about them. See where you both stand on it all.

Hey, I was 35 when I had my first. She was born perfectly healthy and although I was induced 3 weeks early due to preeclampsia, we wouldn't have traded our experience.
I have wanted kids since I was in my early 20's but I wasn't going to have them for the sake of having them. Marriage was important to me and I wanted that before I had kids. I got married at 33 and DD was born when I was 35. It was worth the wait... DH and I finally have the careers we wanted, we own our home and financially we are more stable and secure.

Do it when you feel ready for it! The only thing is that you never know how long it's going to take before being pregnant...and if you want a lot of kid, then you can start thinking of it. If you only want one, you can take your time! I am done with kids too, I had them at 26-29-31 and didn't had any problem at all. Good luck!

well, apparently 30 yrs is when it starts to get harder to actually get pregnant.
I was pregnant with my first at 27, basicly within a month of trying.
Now I am 34 and it took me a year and a half to get pregnant after LOTS and LOTS of trying.
My doctor wanted me to go to a fertility clinic, but that really did not appeal to me with all the drugs and hormones and stuff. So I went the homeopathic route, and that seemed to work.
I have heard that sometimes it's easy the first time, but you can kinda cross the line of decreased fertility with a subsequent pregnancy. I think that's what happened with me.
It's good to wait until you feel you're ready, but it's also ok to take the plunge when you're only 90% sure, maybe not 100%, because you never know what complications you might run into later on, even if you are otherwise a normally healthy person.
besides after the kid is born, you'll be 150% sure
and that will make up for most other unsurities.

I had my first when I was 32, and will probably be 35/36 for the next one.
I was paranoid about the "kids by 30" thing as well. I think it comes from a time when people had shorter life spans and could not think they stay healthy long enough to enjoy their children as they got older. Also, in "olden times" family was regarded as more important than personal choice or happiness.
From a health standpoint, my own research I found that from a genetics side, the risk to baby's health jumps "significantly" after age 35. So, for example, instead of 1 in 400 (0.25%) chance of a baby having a certain condition, it is 1 in 200 (0.5%). Still, the only it thing it seems to change is that there are more tests involved as a precaution due to the age of your "eggs".
That being said, there is still plenty of time for you to decide when is the right time to have a little one. There will never be a 100% perfect time to have a baby, but you are entitled to take the time you need to decide when is the "almost" perfect time.
