This is often over looked.
For those of you that purchased a newly built home or renovated your current home to the latest energy efficient standards make sure you file a claim for up to 10% of your CMHC insurance premium associated with your mortgage as well as any additional premiums you may have paid due to amortizations extended past 25 years.
Just as an example the purchase of a $500,000 home with 5% down and a 25 year amortization would carry a premium of about $13,000.00. If you meet the criteria the rebate would be $1,300.00. Nothing to sneeze at.
The Government of Canada actively promotes energy conservation and initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Since about 20% of all energy used in Canada is used by your home, CMHC offers this rebate that is often over looked by those having mortgage insurance.
This claim can be made for up to 2 years after your home purchase or renovation.
Details of the program can be found here
And to make this as easy as possible for all of you, the online application can be found here.
The attachment is a hard copy of the application
Note that some of you may have mortgage insurance from Genworth and they also offer a similar program to their clients, however I'm highlighting CMHC due to the pure volume of mortgages they insure.
Hope some of you can use this. This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by themortgageguy; Tue, Oct 2nd, 2012 at 03:04 PM.
