I'm joining in anger at the "Real Canadian Superstore".

They claim it's "Prices you can trust" -- Oh Yeah! But just DON'T TRUST where they PUT the prices.
Today (Oct 30th 2012), Superstore in Cranbrook BC had the most deceptive piece of retailing display that I've seen for years in three continents.

An enormous ticket (approx. 5 foot by 3 foot) displays a special price of $6.98 above a stand of identically sized cans. All of the cans at eye level and just below are coffee creamer.

Below that, identically sized cans contain PC coffee with a miniature ticket (approx. 1 and a half inches by one inch) indicating a price of $12.98. It's tucked away on the far-left side a shelf.

You don't believe this was deceptive? I waited while three customers selected coffee and I asked them what they thought the price was. Each said, " $6.98" - the cost of the creamer.

I've often seen this happen in the UK and in Australia but generally by default - a display bin of specials has become empty and been filled up with similar higher priced goods or higher priced goods are virtually overlapping the low price bin. This can generally be attributed to carelessness of an individual staff member - but not the Canadian Super Store example - it was a very deliberate and very dishonest management ploy.

PS. Just for fun, while you're in Superstore, it's worth going to the desk and asking them to do a "Price Match" on Walmart's free plastic take-away shopping bags.
