Aaarrrgghhh!!! I need experts' input.
What is the policy for Walmart and Zellers when it comes to using a coupon with a price match?
I had a very aggravating experience with both stores when trying to buy an item by price matching plus using a coupon. The p/m difference was only $2 but I had a $5 manufacturer's coupon too. It was for those bite plate things you wear at night for your teeth. It was 27.99 at Lawtons but they were sold out.
I went through the following aggravation not just for the principle but to educate myself....
At Walmart the combination wasn't questioned, rather the validity of the coupon was. I was directed by the manufacturer's website to that site where you use that coupon printer software to print them off. She claimed it was only valid in the US. There was no specification, and I'm used to seeing statements on coupons like "valid in US only" etc...she said since it gets shipped to Texas then it's for US only. But I've seen that address on coupons that really were valid here. After a minute she went and asked someone else only to get the same answer. I looked back at the line behind me, shook my head and apologized to them-an attempt at damage control. I got fed up and left. I told them I wasn't making them wait since I'd get nowhere.
I tried the same thing at Zellers, who usually have given me little trouble in the past. The cashier said they don't combine p/m with coupons. With a smile I shook my head and said "Yes they do, because I've done it so many times before at Zellers." she made a call, same answer. She said I was already getting a discount with the p/m so a coupon can't be used in conjunction. I explained that she may be confusing it with that "coupon stacking" which Americans can do. She wouldn't budge, so I said to h--ll with it and went to another cashier at the other end of the store. That end of the store was quiet and had nobody in line. He was going to ring it through no problem, unaware of the debate I had earlier. When I mentioned something about it he called and asked someone. He relayed their reply to me that their policy has changed. Another worker who'd worked at Zellers for a good while stopped by and echoed the claim. However they were more polite and flexible and talked about it all. They said to heck with it and allowed me to do both, more or less saying it wasn't a big deal and they'd do it this time. They never had qualms about the validity of the coupon. I made sure they knew I appreciated their help.
I'm contacting both Walmart and Zellers tomorrow (I'd complained to Walmart before and learned the cashiers were wrong on a different occassion). If Zellers has changed their policy then I'd like to know beforehand, as I often p/m stuff from various stores and used coupons (makes for one-stop shopping rather than traveling all over the place ).
So, what's the deal? Advice will be much appreciated.

As far as I know If the redemption address is in the US the coupon is for the US not Canada.

Hi. I noticed that stores are more and more selective about what Printable Coupons they will accept. I wanted to use a Smartsource for a Razor/Shaver from WM and they would not accept the $20 coupon. I know it is at their discretion and it met all the basics (CDN redemption address/$$ off and said it was a Manufacturers Internet coupon too) Using printables is more of a headache than its worth

Even if the manufacturer says valid in Canada, they usually wont accept them with a US redemption address bc they are mailing just one there (so losing money) and its harder to know if it is valid in Canada
Most stores also have a limit to coupons when it needs an override. For most stores this is $9.99/$10 - typically if you get a manager they will allow it
