    I'm utterly disgusted.

There are updates on this Ontario-based dog rescue, if you want to read more.

Wow! I just don't even know what to say. That would be like someone coming to your door and taking a member of your family away.

In Missouri? I'm surprised an animal control officer would risk taking an animal from a homeowner down there - they'd be risking a very serious case of lead poisoning.

In case anyone is confused by DaveP's response (like I was!), Missouri is the #1 lead producing state in the U.S.

I wish people would stop calling them Pit Bulls there is no such breed. Even Ceasar (who I like very much) insists on calling them that. The group of dogs they call "pit bulls" go by several different breed names.

They are terriers with varying names. There is actually only one dog that goes by the name american pitbull terrier, this is just one of several breeds they are lumping in there. Ignorance is bliss.

    Yes, you are quite right.
The Staffordshire Bull terrior is the "original" breed from Britain (my personal favourite) It has for multiple generations for been bred for temperment. . . .as in breeding "out" aggressiveness. I can testify to that as I had one and he wouldn't hurt a fly.
The Americans took that breed and produced the "Amercan" Staffordshire Bull Terrior, almost twice the size. Unfortunately due to it's popularity with unsavoury characters, a lot of backyard breeding went on. . . .which of course can produce an unstable dog.
Then of course they went even futher and bred the "pitbull", which was bred "for" its agressiveness. (mainly directed to other dogs or animals though) That said, it can be a perfectly lovely dog in the right hands.

I don't have issues with registering the dogs if that means I can have one again. If it would protect the Breed from being mis-used by morons. . . .than I'm all for it.

It's training or the lack of it for sure but back-yard breeders who are after a quick buck who should sholder some of the blame for producing inbred, unsuitable or highly aggresive lines which then become imprinted into the public imagination via the sentsationalist press

I saw this on FB the other day with a statement from many local humane societies etc speaking FOR animal control saying the story was blown way out of proportion by other rescue groups who were likely trying to get advertising
Still sad they even have BSL but we do here too, and I have seen Toronto AC stop someone walking their dog telling them it should have a muzzle bc it is a pit bull when it looked nothing like one

I had a Siberian Husky that was aggressive towards strange people and every living animal on earth. Basically if it moved and wasn't a family member, my husky wanted it dead. As a result, I took pre-cautions to keep her away from other people and to absolutely keep her away from other dogs. Any breed can be aggressive. Sometimes training can help, sometimes it won't (such as in my case). In the end, aggressive or not, a dog can be managed if pre-cautions are taken. No reason to ban them regardless of backyard breeders

Anyone going door to door and seizing animals that appear to be pitbulls isn't doing their job, they're going way above and beyond what their job entails. Anyone coming to my house hoping to seize my dogs would need to shoot me first. Court order or not, I'd go to jail before I would turn over my dog.
