I read about that. And I read about how angry that newspaper was that someone posted a list of the names, address and phone number of all employees of that paper. Ironically, the editor and other employees armed themselves as a result.
Privacy of private citizens should not be used by political zealots to score points.

Was just watching a news video on CBC the parents asking for everyone to think long and hard about things. Its hard to see there grief and hopefully people and new laws will make a differance.

I think that all this fighting over gun control is a real eye opener for people who think they are actually free. You are not living freely when you have gun/drug/farmers/insert lobby group of your choice, running the government and funding congressmen so that they get their agenda implmented.
We are not much better here.

Tue, Jan 15th, 2013, 07:28 PM #350So was the tax hike bill. Interesting who got corporate welfare in that bill, not only avoiding a tax hike, but are going to get free money instead.insert lobby group of your choice
I've predicted for a number of years that one day, voters will have an epifany, and then things will change in a hurry.
On another note, New York passed tough gun control laws. Thus it should be expected over a reasonable amount of time, gun murder should see sharp drops. Chicago is a whole other animal, toughest laws anywhere, worst murder rate now.

Wed, Jan 16th, 2013, 12:26 PM #353Well there you have it! Obama FINALLY does the sensible thing and will finally enforce exsisting law, and make background checks more effective. The biggest failure has been the background checks the government is tasked with.Obama is also ordering federal agencies to make "relevant data" available to the federal background check system and to remove barriers that might prevent states from providing information, particularly mental health data, for background checks.
Being a crazy person, proud racist or sypathyser with terror groups should be grounds to lose your ability to own guns.
Glad this is settled. In 5 - 7 years we can analys data and see which policies worked and which ones failed.
DC 2008 Folks are allowed to carry concealed guns... gun murders make dramatic drop
NYC 2013 cracks down on legal gun owners
Florida 2006 stand your ground laws.... gun murders sharply decrease 23%
Texas 2008 Murder rates plunge 14% after state stops sending young people to jail for minor crimes and enhances stand your ground
The one thing that is quite interesting is how Illinois, with the toughest gun laws, only state that does not allow concealed guns, and the murder rate is spiralling out of control!
I am so pleased Obama did not fall for the failed Illinois model and did sensable things instead.
Chicago Homicides Outnumber U.S. Troop Killings In Afghanistan

Chicago's murder rate is also currently quadruple that of New York and double Los Angeles' rate.
