Thread: Another apartment rant.
-
Mon, Feb 18th, 2013, 07:44 PM #1
I've complained about my apartment in the past but I am completely at my wits end at this point, not only was I tricked into another year lease and had to deal with mold now the rest of the apartment is falling apart.
The bathroom sink leaks and is coming off from the wall so I cant even use it.
The bathtub lining is peeling off and is disgusting making it impossible to have a comfy bath.
They started re-doing the windows in DEC and still havn't finished, they've been hideous for months.
They installed new thermostats and left two ugly holes in the roof (NOV)
The closet doors fall off the track every time you use them
and so many other things! ugh! Ive complained several times and nothing has been fixed.
Any advice?

Wow, that is awful. Your tub looks like they painted it was acrylic spray paint to fix it. What province are you in again? Can you deal with a tenancy board?

I'm in NS. I called the tenancy board about the mold problem last time and they said I had to give the landlord written notice and then give them a reasonable amount of time to fix the problem then if they don't I can file a complaint and they will look into it. So I am writing them tonight and hoping for the best.

That is so awful. Any chance you are in Halifax? You may be able to get the bylaw enforcement officer in faster than the tenancy board, especially with mold. I think that is only for the HRM though.

I know exactly what you're going through! I had problems with my landlord not patching a wall they had to tear down unexpectedly (no warning, I came home to a missing wall).
After a month (of a missing wall!!), I wrote them a letter in order to get the written notice part out of the way. The wall was patched within 2 days after the letter AND I got a gift certificate for $50 to a local restaurant.

That sucks! In Ontario you go month to month after your lease is up. Don't trust landlords, they tell you what you want to hear to fill the suites...that's their job, once you're in, they forget about maintaining the place. Next time get everything in writing; when you can go month to month, what they will do repair wise with a timeline, and inspect the place very carefully.
