http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/...ticle14495956/
Looks like lot of miscommunication between the various parties involved.
Maybe inaccurate reporting by the Globe or maybe Target changing its tune after the public outcry.
Lot of grey areas in the article and very little black and white.
Target probably meant one thing and it was interpreted in a different way by Globe and the public

One less reason to shop at TARGET

Ofcourse its their store so they can do whatever they want , but so can we by not shopping there
..just a cleaner version of Zellers ..nothing more nothing less.
Actually my local Zellers was better than my local Target as far as prices on the items , I buy are concerned

I don't think they understand the magniftude of the poppy in Canada I mean they obviously think it's hurting their image and that's why they dont want the vets selling inside. If they knew how many Canadians choose wear a poppy during Oct-Nov and how most every store and mall will either have a poppy box near the cash of vetrans inside selling they would understand a bit better. They're treating our vetrans like girl scouts looking to sell cookies for fundraising, they will indeed be one of the only stores to do this in Canada and that will say a lot about them.

the legion already issued a statement saying that the news was reporting inaccurate info.
"There still seems to be confusion and misunderstanding around the Poppy Campaign and Target that came as a result of a CTV news clip. We hope the following will help clarify things…"

Thanks for the update.
Quoting the Facebook page
The Legion had an arrangement with Target and all were pleased with it. The arrangement with Target was made much earlier this year thanks to outreach from the Legion and willingness to support the Poppy campaign from Target. No Poppy volunteers will ever be made to stand in bad weather or in any kind of uncomfortable environment. Target has been a good corporate citizen with the Legion and we will continue to work with them through the Poppy campaign.

You don't have to set tables or booths inside , you just have to stand inside.
Not every charity does it outside , that's a very inaccurate generalisation ..some do it inside as I have seen on numerous occasions ..some do it semi-inside , where they stand between the double doors.
I have seen both inside and outside ..so its definitely not every outside.

My husband is part of the legion, he had to sell poppies on a very windy day outside the liquor store... I was outside the Foodland. At least I had a windbreak so my poppies didn't scatter. Personally I'm not happy how Target was the only bad guy in this article, as many stores don't permit the poppy sellers inside. Now if Target had said "don't leave a box AND don't come on the property with the intention to sell poppies" I'd be angry.

The thing is with retail, whether a store or a mall, someone has the authority to deny or to approve use of their space for charity. Government agencies may have to hew to a policy of not appearing to favour any group thus have canvassers stand outside. The weather issue does present a challenge-no windbreak or shelter outdoors save for what volunteer is wearing. At least old plazas may still have pillars, benches and partial walls as part of the outdoor landscape for a bit of shelter.
When the Beer Store collects for the Bottle Drive for Leukemia at a local store, the staff/volunteers are in an outside fenced enclosure in the parking lot. The main business of beer sales and regular bottle returns continue inside unimpeded within a small store.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
