Just a thought....

Maybe have a free software section so you don't need to favourite my free links? It's an idea as I can help tell you if it's real freeware/open source that works rather then risk having ad-ware/ spyware, and worse yet, viruses. I have a top of the line computer that bores me to death that I don't put it to better use. As a software geek, it would make me happier, I don't know about any one else though. Most of the programs might need minor tweaks, but I know ways I can make those work for people and am MORE then willing to help there.

If you want proof of good products that I KNOW work, here's some good ones I use and what programs that you'd need to pay for that work.

OpenOffice = Microsoft Office
Firefox = Internet Explorer
Thunderbird = Outlook Express
OpenArena = Unreal Tournament

and there is tons more out there. Most of them can be for Windows, which shockingly, has tons of freebies that are better then the ones you need to pay for! However, I can still find ones for Linux (has the most, by the way) and Mac (which has some, but harder to find) if need be. Also, you don't need to worry about me posting faulty pages/programs for people either. Believe me, I will make sure that people will get more then what they pay for: a working program equal in quality or more so then one you need to pay for!

Hey, do you know if Opera is any good? is it free? Seems to me like you might be up on that kind of thing. :smartass:

Opera is free and is a very nice browser. It's faster then both Firefox and IE without an accelerator. I'd highly recommend the switch, mostly because it uses less RAM and memory, letting it pick that up in lost speed! Be forewarned that not all sites may show correctly under Opera, but most will.

Not really. Firefox is good if you like ad-ons and something to emulate IE7 without the holes in security. However, it is slower to run the Opera is. Mostly due to the file size difference and all.

If you want, Boo, I could show you the difference in size though Add/Remove programs? Size matters with speed, I know this all too well.

Heh.. I am on firefox right now.. may look into Opera next time I am visiting home (Theys the people who would know how to set it up for me :P).

I use Firefox and Opera at Home and IE at school. Out of the three, I personally stick with Firefox but the choice is yours. If you want speed, go with Opera, if you want a stable browser, go with Firefox. And if you want the worst of the worst, go with IE! :cool:

I've been having some problems with my hotmail and school email accounts lately... Mostly just hotmail.. I have to refresh and it doesn't always want to send, the tabs (today,mail,contacts, calendar) don't always show up and the list down the side looks a little funny. I downloaded microsoft office not that long ago and big fix popped up with a security update... I didn't download that one in time, but I downloaded another one (which Boo helped me with. Thank you Boo!:)). Could there anything related that is wrong? A friend said that it could be Rogers (internet company), but I don't know about that.. Has anyone else been having hotmail/msn problems?

I don't use hotmail all that often, but by the sounds of it, it might be the connection to Hotmail. I say this because I've had a problem once like that...and I use Aliant. While it might not be Rogers fault, per say, it could be Microsoft's side that's causing the bug. While I don't know a fix to that, I do know another e-mail service that is free too. Gmail, google's email is free to sign up and you get two gigs of space! As well you can use it's other programs like their useful Alerts. Might be worth the switch, and it's spam blockers are very useful. I've only been spammed twice, and after blocking the sender and words, it stopped.

It might be, or it might be Microsoft's connector. I don't work for either company, but I do know that there are bugs all over both of them. Sometimes, it just seems like it might be better to give up. I know this too well. Using Aliant makes it common.

try using Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer:

Hate to tell you this Boo, but it's not the browser she's running that's the issue here. It's something with either her connection or Microsoft's connection. Might even be a firewall. I have the same issue with both Opera and Firefox. I only run IE at school but it doesn't matter as they block Hotmail here.

Likely Microsoft's server problem.

I use Hotmail all the time.. sometimes it works.. sometimes it doesn't. :mad:

My biggest problem is MSN groups. Also mega mega server problems. I have a mommies message board there that I have ran for over a year and the problems drive me NUTS! (sorry.. a bit off topic there)

I like your suggestion on the Gmail. Does it work like hotmail?

I find it works better the Hotmail. But, it is up to you.

As for the replies to my question, me thinks I knew that and I just found it odd.

Thanks everyone for the help and tips! I appreciate any computer help i can get and learning new things! My hotmail is better (magically)... but probably only for now..;. I am considering downloading firefox.
