Nintendo Wii help

Okay. I'm a mother of a teenager so I am asking for help from the young video gamers out there. I have been trying to get any info that I can about buying the Wii system because my son wants this for Christmas and I think it is going to be a crazy manic scene to try and get one when it comes out Nov.? Anyway, has anyone heard about a waiting list to get one from any of the stores out there. I have phoned quite a few but none are taking pre-orders.

Two bits of info that should hopefully help you out.

All EB's in Canada are taking pre-order's tommorow, but they're going to go pretty quick. You'd probably have to line up at 5 or so in the morning.. I was going to myself (there's no way I'm going past launch day without a console), but then I came to my senses.

Nintendo has always had a great track record for providing more than enough product at launch. As a matter of fact, there's never been a Nintendo console launch where there weren't enough to go around. The Wii won't be any different - they've been in production since August, so there'll be plenty to go around.

I can understand your level of concern though - the 360 launch last year was a nightmare, and the PS3 this year isn't going to be much different. But don't worry, you can trust Nintendo.

The console launches on Sunday, November 19th and will retail for $279 CDN. It'll come with one controller and a free game, Wii Sports. The best bet would be to line up with all the geeks and nerds like me that early that morning and grab one if you're worried. Though like I said, I'd be really surprised if there weren't enough to go around.

If any more questions, just let me know. I'm sort of the resident expert on all things Nintendo.

Wow! Thanks for all that info. I feel so much better now...except for the part about the price. I was figuring closer to $200- don't ask me why-possibly wishful thinking...
But I appreciate all that Nintendo info and am glad to hear that they don't usually try and drive the consumer insane. I will cross my fingers and hope for the best.
I did ask my son if he thought we should wait for them to iron out any "kinks" in the system before buying it but of course, he didn't think this was necessary!!
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to help me out!!

Initially I was planning to buy the Wii on its release date but then I decided to wait for a couple of days to make sure there are no major problems or serious bugs. This whole joystick motion sensor is a new idea and you never know how good it’ll be.

The price, although still expensive, is lower than most gadgets nowadays. iPod videos, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 all cost over $400!!!

I think the best electronics to buy nowadays are PCs (not Apple computers). PCs cost under $1000 and offer way more practical features than an iPod or Playstation. Yet I got sucked into the iPod hype myself

Boo - you should get rid of that iPod - time to get out of the machine!! I can give it a good home.

Anyhoo - just thought I should mention that I've made a liar of myself in this thread. I went and pre-ordered this morning.
