Im not sure where to post this.

I have never redeemed my optimum points before and i see this weekend is a bonus redemption. i have 25000 points to spend and the flyer says that equals up to $50. So what do i do? Just fill my cart with $50 worth of groceries then at cash tell them i am redeeming 25000? Will i get the $50 off? Why does it say 'UP TO $50'? are there exclusios? like electrionics or something?

PLease help. I am new at this a do not want to look like a fool trying to redeem my points and i really dont want to have to pay out of pocket if i dont have to.

Just put $50 worth of products in your cart. Tell the cashier you want to redeem $50 worth. SOme provinces have restrictions on milk.

You can get "up to" 50 off before you can redeem for less, (not like you would)

    Good luck

Apply every possible promo code to your cart, at every store that you visit (and get points for cash back on top of that?). It's sweet and easy with HONEY.

    This should help: http://www1.shoppersdrugmart.ca/en/Optimum/

I find it handy to bring a calculator (phone) to keep a running total of what is going in the cart of the after coupon discount. I try to get as close to the target but usually go a little over to make sure I get the total redemption value

plus you can't redeem for these items

    28. Shoppers Optimum Points may not be redeemed towards the purchase of the following products/services: prescription drugs, products containing codeine, gift cards and prepaid card products, wireless phone cards, stamps, Post Office stamps and merchandise, passport photos, tickets provided by Ticket Ops or any other event ticket provider, cigarettes and tobacco (where sold), lottery tickets, bus tickets and passes, delivery charges (where applicable), bill payments (where accepted), bottle deposits/returns, charitable donations, gift with purchases and any other items specified as exclusions from time to time. Shoppers Drug Mart reserves the right to add or delete products and services eligible for Shoppers Optimum Points redemption at any time, at its sole discretion, without notice.

Remember you have to pay tax on the $50 (assuming the products you are purchasing are not tax free)

They say up to because if your items = $49.98 plus tax, they will only reduce your total by $49.98 You will have to pay the tax. Remember though, you can use coupons, so it's a great idea to bring along a paper and calculator or your smart phone to keep track of the total, less coupons. Nothing is worse than getting to the till thinking you've hit your $50, the realizing you have to grab a few more things cause you've got an extra $6. Hate that, then your grabbing chocolate bars and gum from the till when you could have gotten something you really needed.

Best of luck on your FIRST (of many I'm sure) redemptions
