What works for me is....
I load up my Giftcard first... Then I do my shopping.
This prevents people in line behind you from rolling eye's etc... and a cashier can't prevent you from loading your card this way either.
Everyone Wins!
P.s. Also I find the Gift cards that are on display loose there charge as it were, and don't swipe well so it can become a real pain in the ass for the people in line behind you as the teller has to attempt to swipe the GC 10 times. I have one Gift Card ( I call it my luck card ) that I just keep reusing "Load Giftcard".. it scans right every time and you can load any amount you want at one time up to $200. So I recommend finding your lucky card and get use to loading it first.

You bought Stouffer's pasta so I am assuming those are Stouffer's meals which have pins inside the packaging which you can redeem for free stuff. Here is the link to check it out.

Poobah! Great shopping! I can't say that I appreciate "conning" your wife though. That part doesn't impress me.

It' not really a con... Afterall 90% of everything I buy is for my wife and kids anyways. So it ends up goin right back into the family POT (Pot belly considering the food shoppers sells). Myself I pretty well stick to a low carb hunk of meat with a side of greens for dinner.
Besides that, I buy almost everything including the Car, House, Insurance, Gas.... She does help out with groceries, cell phones, cable mind you. But the little victories like this are precious to me. As we all know Husbands rarely win these competitions. lol
I very much love my wife and I swear, I'm generally not that scrupulous.

My problem has been that they know I get points from the GC purchase, but they don't WANT me to buy a GC and then use it right away, feel like I'm cheating or something. Once i was going to buy a Kindle there that was on sale; once I verified they had one, I said OK, let me go by this GC first (which I had in my hand). It was a supervisor, and she kind of laughed and said, "You can't do that!" She didn't have a good explanation about why not, I ended up going elsewhere. They've also told me I cannot buy my transit passes with a GC, which is also not true - the cashiers were all eyeing each other, whispering, trying to figure out which cash I'd go to and who was going to refuse me. Eventually it became not worthwhile to fight every time.

That does sound horrible.. I'll count myself luck to have the shoppers I do.
I have had bad experience at the one downtown where I live. The newest in the area, they definitely found issues with everything I did. They wouldn't even let me buy more then 4 boxes of KD. They said they don't have to sell more the 4 of anything. I said I realize you will only sell 4 at 7.99, but I'm happy to buy everyone after that at 9.99. I suggested the following "Do you think your manager would be more happy to sell all the product? Or to have it still on the shelf 3 weeks from now?" They said.. I don't care, your only buying 4.
I haven't shopped there since.

That's so stupid, they limit sale price quantity only but if anyone wants to buy more cashier usually remind customer that the price is higher and leave it to customer to decide. You can definitely buy over sale price quantity, that's why they always mentioned "over limit price is $X" in the flyer. I have shopped at SDM for years and NEVER encounter that problem.
