Your AMAZING thank you for your generosity.
I was curious about the tax receipt
If you keep all your receipts for couponing and you get all the items free how does the food bank estimate what you should get for a tax deductible. I understand they are weighing it.
I always assumed if it's free they wouldn't give a tax receipt.
I would love if you could explain it to me.
Does it matter if you paid nothing and be able to get a tax receipt?

Not all food banks give tax receipts. You need to research and give them a call to ask. Luckily, our local food bank which is one of the largest in our areas does. I checked on
their official website and also called to talk to them. It's called "gifts in kind" whether it's a tangible item or food, as long as you keep all the original receipts and circle
the items you are donating on the receipt, they will issue you a tax receipt.
So I came in with about 30 receipts with my items circled. Each item needs to show up on the receipt.
They look at the sale price listed on the receipt when it gets scanned in. They do not take the coupons into consideration. So for example, I got Scheweppes for $0.99
and used a $1 coupon to get it for free. Well they calculate the $0.99 and ignore all the coupons/discounts at the end.
They took photocopies of all my receipts corresponding to the items I was donating. They don't issue the tax receipt right away. They said I should get it by mail within 60 days.
Because I donated past the deadline for 2014 tax receipts (Dec 31 is the cut-off), the tax receipt they are going to issue me is for 2015.
Hope that helps!

You have inspired me to get back into the donation kick too.
