So I used my $10 WUB3 coupon from Olay today and after reading all the threads on here of people who had problems, was not surprised when the cashier said she had to check before taking it.
The manager okayed it over the phone without even coming to look at it and the cashier attempted to put it through but seemingly they can't enter a coupon of that size so the manager had to come over to override her till to allow it to go throughThis thread is currently associated with: Olay

They had to do that for me too at Maxi. Head cashier comes and over rides it and then they can enter it. I think they just worry that if it's a scam they are out that money. Mostlty a safeguard. Trying to convince them that the coupon can cover the tax was my problem at Zellers. Still waiting to hear from head office on that one. Sent a letter about 2 weeks ago.

At Loblaws/Zehrs chains they always have to override if the coupon is a high value. Happens to me all the time, don't worry

When I bought a bunch of items at loblaws the other day with the coupons the cashier rang them in at $5 two times for the $10 so that the supervisor didn't have to override it.
I didn't ask because she still did the coupons and I got my stuff.

WalMart gave me a heck of a time with mine. It happens to be my worst shopping experience...long story.

when I used the $10 olay coupon a couple weeks ago, the cashier read the coupon (front and back), then told me it has to be one of the products on the picture of the coupon. I reminded her it's clearly stated on the coupon 'any olay products, excluding trial sizes'. she looked at me with disbelieve, she then showed the coupon to the head cashier, the head cashier read the coupon and looked at the three products I was getting, told the cashier its fine, the head cashier had to over ride it. the total came to over $10.

They didn't have a problem with the actual coupon - whoever she called seemed annoyed that she kept asking about it. I dont think they have ever had a high value coupon because they were all a bit taken back by the red screen

most stores require override if coupon is >$10, so cashiers either do it the proper way and wait for supervisor, or do 2 smaller amounts to make the 10, or do 9.99

I think basically anything over 5.00 is an override at our stores.

Using a coupon that is double digits (e.g. 10 or more) will not be accepted by the cash register at Superstore (Loblaws chain) that is why the cashiers have to either enter it in two single digit denominations (e.g. 2 x $5) or have the supervisor override it. It is a safeguard built into the cash register system so that employees can't favourable treat friends, etc...
Also, at WalMart, the self checkout allows a maximum of 5 coupons per purchase, after that, each additional coupon requires a supervisor override. This safeguard is to avoid allowing self-checkers to enter the same coupons over and over again, maximum outage would be the coupon times 4 (with the original being valid), minimizing the loss to Wal Mart if a self-checker is being dishonest.

This is good to know. I had a CSM tell my cashier the other day that the cash would only allow so many coupons and then wouldn't allow any more. (I had 15 $1.00 coupons). So we all stood there and waited til the cash refused to take any more, but it never did! LOL Your information is probably what she was thinking of...Thanks for sharing it, now I'll use the self checkout when I have just a few items. I've never done it before with coupons.
