I buy a $100- pay as u go card for my cell phone, i mainly use it to text, so it lasts me about 6-9 months. now i am told by Virgin mobile they will be charging me an additional $5-
sorry..my bad edited to change 15 to $5- a month......still NOT happy.
also this....
You will receive 10 minutes of local talk time each month. Any additional usage will continue to be charged at your current plan rates. You'll continue to have 24/7 access to our network and there will be no changes to your 911 service or to the features associated with your plan. Prepaid funds applied to your account are non-refundable.
am wondering if I don't use 10 mins of talk time, will that Roll over to the next month?
is this the same with every provider or does virgin just suck?"..

Telus also has changed and I am now charged a min of $10 a month. If my balance exceeds $150 with them, than I will have to go on a regular rate plan, so I make sure to stay under this amount.

7/11 Speakout: $0.30/min (Canada), $0.15/text (Incoming Free), $1.25/mo. Regulation Recovery Fee
Petro Canada: $0.30/min (Canada), $0.15/text (Incoming Free), $0.15/MB Data, $1.25/mo. 911 Recovery Fee
Those are the only ones I can think of, however they still charge a small, monthly fee...

PC Mobile has long distance cards-not sure what your provider would charge for cell time--that you can use to call long distance within US & Canada (though technically Mexico is part of North America, so why is it not included...) on your cellphone. But I recall that there used to be a separate set of cards for cellphone long distance. I get the regular LD Canada/US cards for home landline use. Mom calls her sister in Europe using the cards. Need a new one soon. My local Fortinos put them by the express Cash Lanes (they used to be only behind the Customer SErvice desk for two years) without a notice to customers (hide and seek for SCers using them).

I have been using Rogers pay as you go for more than 10 years.
I load $100 which expires in a year, a text costs $0.30, a local call costs $0.50/min. I don't have data.
We got our teen a Rogers pay as you go last Dec and they do not offer this anymore.
They now offer plans where you choose a monthly service fee that range from:
$10 to $50 for Talk & Text plans
$30 to $65 for Talk, Text and Data plans
We only got him the $15 Talk & Text plan. With this he gets unlimited texting but is charged $0.30/min for local calls.

Pay as you go is so expensive. I had it years ago. Made one phone call and it ate all my money. But if you are on a budget I guess.

My parents have a Pay As You Go plan through Bell Aliant (NS), and they load $100 onto it annually. I asked if they are charged a fee and they said no....nothing deducted.
