Ok. So I’m kinda a newbie with gardening so need some expert advice.

I seem to have those really small ants in my garden! They appear to be in one area only but they overtook a begonia I just planted. So how do I get rid of them safely since I also grow veggies and we’re not allowed to use chemicals.

    Thanks

Here are 20 ways to get rid of ants without chemicals. We have used boiling water. May need to repeat the boiling water a few times.

i have used this recipe combining borax laundry detergent with corn syrup or peanut butter.

apparently, sometimes ants are more attracted to sugar and at other times, the protein in peanut butter. they take the bait back to the nest and feed and poison their nestmates.

i place the bait in discarded lids because it gets messy and sticky. watch where the ants go and try to place the bait on their usual trail(s). you should find dead ants (yuck!) within a week or so.

in your case, try placing the bait around the begonias. hopefully they'll get their fill of the bait before getting to the plants.

    good luck!

Thanks but I can’t use chemicals. I’m hoping a natural approach will work

The most effective ant solution for me was the Raid Ant Baits. It's poisoned food that they will take home to the queen. It will destroy the colony completely. The delay death means you don't have to deal with the bodies and it will prevent them from coming back. It's technically not natural, but it doesn't harm your family or your plants.

It's very effective, I've only used it 3 times in 2 decades. They never came back in the homes I'd used.

I've only used it indoors or on the deck, but it should work the same in theory. They should take the poison back to the queen just the same. You might need a few more packs depending on the size of yard.
