Found this deal with Crest Pro-Health at Walmart the other day.
It involves following a daily regimen using Crest Pro-Health products and an initial assessment done by your dentist or dental hygienist and a follow-up assessment. At the follow-up visit if the dentist or hygienist does not see an improvement after using the pro-health regimen at least twice daily for four weeks, send in your product receipts and assessment form by September 30, 2010. You may be eligible to receive a cheque for $45.00

    For more information visit:

Assessment form can be downloaded at http://www.prohealthcanada.ca/assessmentform_en.pdf

All in all, we could all use motivation for improved oral health... why not try if you've been thinking of trying this product!?

I saw this about a week ago in SDM....but my health insurance is covered by the military and 2 check-ups in less than 4 weeks is a no go for something as frivolous as whether or not a toothpaste and tooth brush works well. I am covered for a check-up and cleaning I believe every 9 months, some insurance companies are once a year. I don't know think this would be covered if the hygienist were to write the real reason why you needed two check-ups in 4 weeks. Also on a side note...$45 for something like this isn't worth the hassle for me and I certainly bet it isn't worth the hassle for someone too lazy to even take care of their teeth Just my 2 cents.

I did some checking into the prohealth line from crest and they use a kind of floride (stanus floride) that causes brown stains in some people.

    http://www.crest.com/prohealth/mouth...-whitening.jsp

Crest's own site does mention it and tries to make it seem that it is the product working that causes the stains but since other products work fine without causing stains I think it is the ingredience that are the issue.

Other discussion about these products include:

    http://www.amazon.com/Crest-Pro-Heal...sin=B000BS6VWC

    and

    http://consumerist.com/363684/crest-...ts-on-my-teeth

Personally I would not use these products if they paid me since I would have to pay to have the stains removed. Dentisty already costs me emough without having to have extras to undo stains caused from a product like this. No thanks

All right, so, as a Registered Dental Hygienist of the province of Ontario, now I would love to give my 2 cents
I think the program that Crest has put out is fantastic... (i'm not a spokesperson or anything for Crest but i believe that this is a great incentive to raise awareness and improve oral hygiene, although yes, they are promoting thier product! -- using the no-name floss and the cheaper colgate! is just as good, as long as the toothpaste has the CDA approved seal, but the incentive program is for Crest Pro-Health only)

Written in the guarantee on the pro-health website it does say that "the initial assessment to be done prior to November 30, 2009. and the second assessment must be completed by August 31, 2010 ... at least twice daily for four weeks..." so I'm not sure if it means a minimum of 4 weeks... because it does give a 9 month interval allowance. so this follow-up assessment could be done at your next hygiene visit? No?

But, just for interest sake, since it was mentioned, I have done initial assessments of many clients whom actually do return for a 4 week re-evaluation (titled a periodontal re-evaluation) and In many cases this assessment or re-evalutation is covered by insurances. Sometimes, however it might be wise to contact your insurance and specifically ask if this procedure is covered if you are worried prior to the appointment (I believe for Ontario the code is 49101, not sure if that is true for other provinces as well). Also some insurances prefer the hygienist to contact them for this request. As for clients that do not have insurance or for those that it does not cover, this 4 week re-evaluation is usually around $49. I know a lot of people right now are saying to themselves that $49 could go towards a lot of other things that this is the last on the list... hygienists hear it all the time, and in some ways I hear you! But, its out duty to try to raise awareness and this follow-up assessment is great motivation and education for your oral health!!! Not to test whether a toothpaste and brush works!

April now is approaching and I'm not sure how many of you knew or know to raise awareness that April is Oral Health Month!

With the many many mouths that I have been priviledged to assess and "clean" I think that it is safe to say that more than 75% of you out there has some sort of oral infection. Whether it is a cavity, gingivitis (gum disease), or periodontitis (bone disease).

This program is a sneaky way to try and grab the attention of all of us money-saving junkies and along the way promote a product and hopefully improve some mouths and hygiene habits at the same time!!!

(a second side note... i have had a few clients with great oral hygiene that i've seen with Mega stain at follow-up appts... after investigating it seems to be the pro-health mouthwash that may be the culprit! Some products don't work for everyone... and no, it's not always laziness !)

why not give it a try, all you have to lose is a dirty mouth, literally!

I agree with the fact that in some individuals it causes staining, as i mentioned in the previous post and I have seen myself.
This product is approved for safety by the FDA and CDA approved (Canadian Dental Association).
Crest also makes the whitestrips and I have seen that after using this product some individuals are also more prone to staining... (ie my husband). Keep it in mind if you are steering clear of Pro-Health!

They've paid me to try it! I'm kinda in limbo, I prefer my regular mint crest or colgate. hey but it's a freebie and I gave it a try.

This "kind of floride (stanus floride)" is Stannous fluoride which is also found in the dental office and in most cases can be the main ingredient in the topical fluoride administered at the end of your hygiene visit in the trays. This helps to prevent decay or "cavities"

for anyone interested also there is some great research on staining http://books.google.com/books?id=j4h...result#PPA7,M1
with reference made also to use of mouthrinses...

It's important that people know that it was the old form of stanous fluoride that reportedly stained teeth. The people at Crest actually developed a new formula with Sodium Hexametaphosphate that does not stain teeth. It also provides benefits to prevent sensitivity, gingivitis and plaque that no other toothpaste can match. If you check their advertising and the CDA, you will see that it is recognized by the CDA for more areas than any other toothpaste. People mistakenly assume that all toothpaste does everything, but it's not true. For example, Sensodyne does not prevent gingivitis, and does not protect against plaque or tartar. Colgate Total (including Advanced Health) does not prevent sensitivity. Crest Pro-Health is the only toothpaste that does it all. Don't listen to the mis-information about tooth staining. It's just their competitors trying to create doubt in people's minds. Crest Pro-Health is the only toothpaste I use. My sensitivity went away, my teeth have never been whiter, and my dental hygienist is amazed at how much less plaque I have. Also, I used to have gingival bleeding from time to time, and since starting on Crest Pro-Health it went away completely. That stuff is amazing!
    Hope this information helps!

That's crazy. The true fact is that someone with a LOT of plaque can have temporary staining if they use ANY antibacterial mouth rinse (which includes Listerine and Crest), as the bacterial residue can adhere to the plaque. It will come off with proper brushing and regular visits to the dentist. People need to get the real facts before over reacting. Therapeutic rinses cause a dramatic decrease in gingivitis (that more than 50% of people will get), so it's well worth the time and cost. Any dental professional will tell you that YOU NEED TO RINSE!
