i use freecycle and full circles and LOVE LOVE LOVE both of them. not only does it prevent perfectly good things from going to a landfill, but it also really helps our family out. we've acquired many items for our baby (first one, due in december) using freecycle and we're incredibly thankful. i'm not even sure if i can remember it all, but here's my list so far:

-a BEAUTIFUL storkcraft changing table in wonderful condition
    -a new breast pump
-an infant carseat (no accidents, unexpired!! )
    -plenty of baby clothing
    -a couple coat racks
-dvd sets for stargate atlantis and star trek for hubby
    -baby bathtub
    -a Moses basket
    -a futon with frame
    -a stroller

& plenty of new friends in the city! what a wonderful group...the moderators here are fantastic.

If you unsubscribed on your group site you should not be getting any more emails from them. I would just double check that you have indeed unsubscribed, sometimes it doesn't always work

I figured this might be worth a re-post as the last post on it is nearly two years old.

Most major cities in Canada have a pretty active freecycle community. It's pretty easy to find if you put "Canada freecycle" in your search engine. I know I've been able to get lots of things for my home and family through them and it's also a great place to request and aquire coupons for local items and events.

If anyone is having trouble finding a freecycle link in their city, feel free to email me privately and I can help out.

Freecycle has really gone downhill in my area lately, there is more spam lately and a lot of outrageous requests (I mean really who is going to give you a wii + wii fit, preferably new in box)

I hear ya there. I used to be part owner of one, I had to leave, it was making me sick. My biggest items I posted was a travel trailer and 2 trucks, I wanted a family whom had kids to use the camper trailer who wouldn't be able otherwise to afford one to take the kids camping. Forgetting I was part owner they would send me all kinds of sad stories saying they had 4 kids etc. Ummmm, no ya don't ya have one. I finally picked a family only to find out my friend was their neighbor and they sold the trailer for 2500. I was mad to say the least. To me that is what freecycle isn't about. Now some family literally has to go without who would have been really greatful. Same thing with one of the trucks I posted, turned around to sell it. Hell I could have sold it myself but that was not my intent. I also had a 9 month old leather couch and loveseat, offered it, left it outside only on the basis that it WOULD be picked up by 3:00 that afternoon, and we had to leave for the day. We tarped it up just so the sun wouldn't damage it. We get home at 7pm, pouring rain and windy, tarp blown off and yep couch and ls still sittin there soaked. I was pissed. Called them madder then hell, their excuse? They forgot....wha???? You really needed it that bad eh? grrrrr, they went on and on that they had no living room furniture, ummmm yeah! rant over lol.

When we moved the business we had a lot of office furniture we were replacing (the new place came furnished with nicer stuff) and I freecycled it - one guy agreed to come at the end and take what was left, he wanted to scrap it for $ (he was up front about it and saved us getting a truck big enough to haul it so I agreed that he would come at the end and could have what was lef - he ended up taking a lot because so many people did not show, even the washing machine and dryer that they had there which the family 'really needed because they had twin newborns and were using the downtown laundrymat)

sheesh, ya hear all types of stories don't cha? I was really getting literally ill from so much greed, I just had to leave. The things ppl wanted just made me sick. One man was in a wheelchair and asked for something, I said sure, he asked if I could deliver it, I said sure, no thank you nothing. Whatever.

Yes ..its gone downhill . People not showing up is a major issue .

Also I think its a safety issue too..you never know who would show up at your doorstep .

I can really hear the disappointment in your story. Why is it when we extend a hand it gets cut off? Once at an ATM, this homeless guy asks me can I spare some $$. Well he saw me withdrawing it so as a one time gesture I reached out and gave him $10.00!! That was out of character for me as I did not want to contribute to a drinking habit, but he immediately ( as I turned to walk away ) calls out " Maam?, " I turn back to him thinking he is going to thank me and he says ( and I kid you not) " Do you think you could make it more? " I near fainted! However, I almost stopped donating to charity, etc because of that 1 bad day. I forgave him and moved on, had to.
