I've learned this from SC. I make sure to have the cashier ring in my FPC items first pointing out that the she should be figuring out the cost of the item including taxes to know the amount to enter on the coupon and the amount she is to deduct from my bill. The cashiers may not be familiar with the way to handle taxes when coupons are used so.....
I make sure to have read the fine print of each FPC (actually I review any coupons I'll use) first to be sure that I'm not expected to pay taxes and also to be able to confirm that to the cashier if she tells me they "always charge taxes". The cashier may choose to call the CSManager over and that's fine; worse case scenario I'd let her charge the tax rather than hold the line up and I would go to CS desk for them to reimburse the tax. I carry a copy of the Retail Sales Tax Guide (Ontario) with me and have/will use it if SCManager won't honor the terms of the FPC.
It sounds worse that it really is as I've really only once ran into such a situation. It was my first SC shopping trip and I was using a FPC armed with the knowledge that I wasn't to be charged taxes and had the RST Guide with me. The cashier charged taxes, she called the SCManager, I had a friendly conversation with CS and CSM and gave her a copy of the RSTGuide at her request and since WM cashiers know about FPC and not to charge taxes unless the coupon states such.
