I've never actually used a thermometer with my son. Fortunately he doesn't get sick very often, and I can generally tell if he's just somewhat feverish or really burning up. Knowing the exact number doesn't really do much for me!

Good deal though.

Costco does have a similar thermometer. Well, they're essentially the same one, but the Costco model is the 'older' model- the ONLY difference is that it doesn't have a memory [of the past temperatures taken], and that is NOT a big deal

For me, this one is better because I can accurately use it on my young daughter without having to do a rectal temperature- trying to hold a young toddler's arm down or stick something under their tongue is not effective, unless their fever is dangerously high and they're lethargic.
For us the thermometer was key in knowing how high the temperature was and for how long- if it's too high [like when my 9 month old was 104 WITH tylenol and reaching for higher] for too long it can be really dangerous, especially in young kids. I don't want to risk permanent damage, so we monitor our daughter's temp as it rises.
We prefer to let the fever take its course naturally [no tylenol] unless it gets too high. Our doctor also appreciates knowing how the temperature has changed/progressed when things get out of hand.I'd love for you to take a look at my shop! I bought mine yesterday because I happened to be at Costco with my mom and spent the night at my parents. My 7.5 month old daughter woke up in a sweat last night due to teething, which she's never done before and ironic enough I had my brand new thermometer to use. I normally use the underarm one and I found this so much easier in the ear. As well the Costco one does remember last reading. I'm very glad I picked it up yesterday.
I can normally tell just by feeling her how bad her fever is, but the few times I've either called TeleHealth or taken her to the Doctor the first thing they ask is her temperate. So I find it much more comforting to know the exact reading. I personally think it's worth the price. Hope that helps!

I had bought a digital termometer at SDM in the summer and it does the temp in 15 seconds. It is much faster than the older models. It was about $15 instead of the the $40 for the ear one. For me it is adequate sine we often get ear infections and I am hesitant to attempt putting something near their sore ears when trying to take a temp.
We sure have come a long way since I was little.
