Thread: Acai berry weight loss... scam?
-

I just bought the juice at my local health food store. It cost about $45.00. According to the brochures, the best form to take it is in the juice form or freeze-dried. Apparently, supplements don't have enough of the real benefits of the berry (??). I'm going to start taking it next week.

On Dec 1 2008 I ordered a product called acaiberry ( 14 day trial) where the price was 5.06 CAD- I still have tablets left). I then received a months supply by mail that I had marked ``Return to sender`do not want`UNOPENED . At that time I did not know the charge was 113.05 CAD as the trial size was so cheap. Because I did not open the package I had no Idea I had been bill that much...otherwise I would have sent it with a tracking #.. I had called and spoke to a woman approx two-three weeks after I sent the product back who confirmed on the phone the package was in another building & that she could not credit till it came to building she was in...It made no sense to me al all all & I questioned it. She told me to call back in two weeks & there would be no problem getting the credit.
I called back (Feb 10 2009) & was hung up on quite a few times til I reached a person by the name of J..k. He assured me on top of canceling my subscription I would get a credit for 113.05 for product returned. auth 29655650xxx & only gave me one authorization number for two credits of 10.61 authorization number 29211821xxx, I questioned the last authorization that didn't`to make any sense I would only get the one , but didn't push it as I was happy he was going to credit the large amount.
I only received one credit of 10.61 on Feb10 2009
Mar 2 2009 I called back & spoke to a woman who said her name was F... I recorded the conversation. She told me she could not make a credit that she was a senior supervisor & if she made a credit it would come off her salary. I told her that could not be so...
she kept saying same thing over then did make a credit for 10.61 after she had told be they were not allowed to make credits...After explaining to her why I could not use product (I`m going through medical tests for ongoing illness) She offered to send me a months supply at no charge...I said no I wanted a full refund...she kept making excuses. She had said she would refund half of the price, when I said I wanted a full refund she kept saying " so you are refusing half refund goodbye" & I kept saying "I am not saying I don't want a refund ...I want a FULL refund" we said this to each other about three time with me ending the conversation saying I want a full refund I will be calling back"
I really wanted the 113.05 back and I do realize my error in not having a tracking number , when I sent it back I had no idea it was worth over 100.00.
I Hope this will help other people. They hide their unknown charges by using various names to bill smaller charges that customers who don't look at their statements will not realize are there. This company could easily rip off millions of dollars & disappear.
I was also told by J..k to expect a charge for a magazine that I haven't seen on my statements...
The fact that F.. offered me a months supply & half of the 113.05 should prove they received my return also I was told by the first woman I spoke to they had received the package in the other building and J..k as well with lying to me about the two credits I did not receive,
F.. had proceeded to tell me I had to find J..k myself she would not provide me with any alternate numbers or address for a head office.
My bank at first reluctantly has made a temporary credit.

There also was a news report last weekenf on a US channel regarding the same product. I thought it was on komo 7 problem solvers but could not find the newscast or a link...Same company same problems...
Update May 13 09
Since my problem with this company that I did not for the 1st time use paypal I discovered 3 unauthorized charges for google & microsoft ads 5.00 51.00 & 300.00 that I may not have noticed right away if i wasn't watching for a credit. I believe this is no coincidence.

my friend just bought the supplements recently. She paid the shipping and charging as they said, and then they out of nowhere charged her $80 like 2 days later. She received the item, but it is a veryy tiny little bottle.

I no longer feel stupid now that I know I am not the only person that fell for this scam! I ordered the "free" sample of the Acai Berries, then cancelled my order 3 minutes later when I found a forum saying it was a scam, they still processed my order and charged me shipping on my credit card, I called and cancelled my card and just got an e-mail from the company saying that the tried unsuccessfully to charge the 80 dollar monthly subscription fee to my card and to please ship the bottle of berries unopened back to them as soon as I recieve them, they had the nerve to say that they want the berries back because dishonest people have been taking advantage of thier free trial offer... If I keep the berries, as I did pay the shipping which I believe was my end of the deal, does that give them grounds to do anything to me? can they mess up my credit or anything?? or should I just send back the bottle like they ask??

well, instead of focusing on the money, or scam/no scam, I prefer to focus on results, afterall if something works for you isn't it worth the price? I think what people really want to know is does this stuff actually work
For me, yes it did, it worked amazingly in fact, I lost 19lbs in 3.5 weeks, about 26 days. Its changed my life without question, I was so moved by this life experience I actually created my own site to tell my story, you can read all about my weight loss experience here: http://acaiflush.net

There are many acai berry related scams out there right now and unfortunately a lot of people are being scammed. There was a great article written about this in a dietitian journal our medical library carries.

It's funny, an overweight friend and I (also overweight) were talking recently about whether we'd consider supplements to move things along. I've thought about it, but never done it, and mentioned Hydcut to my friend. She said she wouldn't do this kind of thing.
Within a week of our conversation, Hydcut was banned in the US (I think, terminology might be wrong), and now has been removed from shelves here. Good thing I didn't buy any!

This is very odd.
I saw my post, and saw that the name of the supplement I used was spelled wrong, both times I used it. Unusual for me, I'm pretty sharp on spelling.
So I went to edit the post to change the spelling. Saved it, but it reverted back to the hydcut word you see above!
What's going on? Why won't it let me use the word hy-drox-ee-cut in a post?
