Places that I have worked only asked me if I was legally allowed to work in Canada before giving me the offer letter. It was only when it was time to get paid that I was asked for the SIN#Quote:

Interesting... for all my job applications (Not work at home jobs mind you) a SIN was always required just to apply!

Btw everyone, they ask in the one link for your Social Security or tax i.d number. Social security IS NOT Social Insurance. Social security is in the U.S and you WILL NOT get paid if you put your Social Insurance number. Never ever ever ever give out your Social Insurance over the Internet, EVER!!!!
Great advice you must protect yourself on the internet!
I don't think a company should ask for your SIN number until you're actually hired!
