Hi all,
I have a question...
pretty soon I will get a friends hdd to back up all his music to CD or DVD
now I would like to know if there is such a program or trick on how to burn the music without searching for them... and making sure the songs fit on one CD or DVD...
you know when you burn pictures in picassa you just click on all the pictures and during burning picassa tells you to change CD or DVD is there something like that for music??This thread is currently associated with: N/A

I guess it depends just how many songs your talking about.
Thousands wont fit on either.
Sometimes if you burn it as an MP3 you can fit 2-500 on a cd.
Dvd's are a bit trickier to do but will hold more.
Even easier is an external hd lol.

Sally thanks,
there will be a few thousand songs, and I was hoping for a continous job *LOL* like click the folder select all and burn... *LOL*
just simple
and when one cd or dvd full is it would just ask me to insert a new empty one *LOL*
but I will find out exactly how many music there are when I get the hdd.
thanks

I did this once with my nero back up, now the dvds wont be playable on a dvd player or anything but if you have nero you select the back up option and then select your files etc.
I think for backing up my pics and music (a ton) I used 15 8gb dvds. It just prompted me when it needed a new one.
But this was ages ago so I can't remember all the details.

On how to easily find the music, if you're using windows.
Open your search dialog (Start -> search)
Click "All Files and Folders"
Under "All or part of the file name" type "*.mp3"
Make sure that the drop down menu is a hard disk (C: or etc).
Then it should be a matter of letting the search run, and dragging an dropping into your burning software.
You will have to repeat that step for all hdds, and you may want to search for other file formats. I would check for *.wma if your friend rips his own discs. If they're getting you to do this for them, it's unlikely they have *.ogg or *.flac files.
Alternatively, there's only a few places that music should really live on a computer unless your friend is insane. My Documents -> My Music (for ripped albums), My Documents -> Downloads for pirated/torrented tracks, and maybe a few files scattered between My Documents and the desktop, on the offchance he has some direct downloads.
A dvd will hold about 14,000 128kbps mp3s.
If your friend uses iTunes, they have an interface like you're talking about for backing up music to multiple discs. However, I don't use iTunes so I can't walk you through it.
Also kick your friend for not organizing their music.
