Thread: SC Friendly Social Prize Packs?
-
Tue, Jun 23rd, 2009, 01:20 PM #1
Hi Everyone!
My fiancee and I are having our wedding social in October, and we're starting to get together ideas for social prize packs, but we're on a pretty tight budget...does anyone have any SC Friendly ideas about what we could put in a package that I could use coupons for? I used my SDM points on that extra redemption weekend to buy a digital camera/memory card/case for under $20 (retailed almost $200!) but we're looking for ideas for regular ones.
Any thoughts/advice/where to find coupons for this would be awesome! This thread is currently associated with: Pharmaprix, Shoppers Drug Mart

I would suggest the Glade candles, with the 4$ off coupon it would make a great addition. You can find some at a fairly descent price. Or even the scented oil things, I found a mood light one on clearance for 4.50$ yesterday and used my 3$ off coupon. I'm new to this too, and I live in Ontario where we have no LD to stack coupons at (dang westerners...lol). Other SCers will probably be able to give you more ideas.

I don't know exactly what a social prize pack is . . . but, at our wedding we did up nice packages for the children in attendance. We took the box that we used for the adult favours and put crayons in it, then we printed off some 'wedding' colouring pages, rolled them up and tied them with a ribbon to the crayon pack. The kids got a small gift and it gave them something to do during the reception. An added bonus was that when we opened our card box there were a bunch of colored pictures with special messages from our littlest guests!

A social is like a co-ed bachelor party. Both the bride and groom are in attendance, and the engagement is celebrated with games, drinks, and gifts.

A social is a Manitoba thing kinda a engagement party/fundraiser for the couple to help prepare for the wedding. You rent a hall and a DJ, sell tickets to everyone you know and have a silent auction (which is where the gift bags come in), people dance and drink the night away and you serve a cold meal late normally consisting of bread , cheese, cold cuts, pickels and some kind of dessert. Its actually a pretty fun party if done well.
As for suggestions if you collect Airmiles you could cash in for gift cards or electronics etc depending on how many points you have. Ditto to any other reward points system HBC, SDM, etc...
I find I collect alot of smellies (febreeze etc) by stacking at LD for near to nothing especially if on sale or PM'd. Also personal care baskets with body wash and razors, shave cream, etc as there are lots of coupons and deals for these things.
I was very lucky for my social that my extended family donated lots of things that they got on sale or clearance. If you have any friends who were recently married they may have some extra wedding gifts they can't use or return, I gave a few to friends for their socials. Also helpful my DH does customer service for a large local company and some of his clients donated stuff so depending on where you or friends and family work it can't hurt to ask.
PM me if you have more questions about social planning. in the past year and a half if worked on my own and two of my friends and we got it down to an art.

This is a great idea! I've never heard of it before. I suggest you go to vistaprint.ca and join. They are for small businesses but they are great for personal stuff & weddings! They send e-mails regularly for FREE T-shirts(you can customie), hats, invitations, thank-you cards, photo magnets & more. All you have to pay is shipping and if you choose the slow option, it's very affordable...almost free
I recently ordered a large banner(for free) for my husband's birthday party. I'm a little addicted to this site! Hope it helps you. Good luck with your planning.

We call this a Stag and Doe, here where I'm from.
As far as gifts, most people don't really care what it is, they are just happy to win something.

you could buy general mills cereal with their t-shirt promotion and give the t-shirt away as a prize. check here to see what i'm talking about:

another idea is try to enter contests and if yu win a prize use it for your social. you might have a better chance doing this if you do the blog giveaways. they have a shorter deadline.

Well sound like a Buck and Doe to me as well. If that is the case. Often a bunch of prize packs are put up. Small cooler filled with various beer's, big bottles of booze, baskets full of smellies and other girl stuff. Then people buy raffle tickets. There is a box with a slot in front of each prize pack. You put your tickets all in one or various ones. Then at the end of the evening a winner is chosen for each prize pack. Usually grabs another 5 bucks a head.

Awesome! You guys are great, I'm going to check out those websites. We've been saving Airmiles, so I think we'll use those for a few things too. The personal care basket I think is awesome, since most of my friends are just finishing up school and are just as broke as I am

Wha? People are fundraising for weddings now? Must be a regional thing, I have never heard of that at stag/staggettes, or of giving away prizes. I must be more behind the times than I'm aware of.
