Just to let everyone know I"m working on SDM pts calculation version 2. This one will include calculations for only product specific bonus pts on non-bonus days cause of course we all shop there on regular days too and it would help to know whether it's worth it to buy it there or somewhere else. I found that an item can be a little more cheaper at another store but because there are bonus pts on the item at SDM, it works out to be more worth it to shop at SDM instead.

In addition to that, I want to gather all tips on how to most benefit from SDM pts. If everyone can add their input here and I will add it to the spreadsheet for easy access for those who uses it.

    My tips are:
    * buy sdm gift card first and use it to purchase products. This way, you double up on the regular points and cut down time needed to reach Optimum plus status. There are lots of benefits being an Optimum plus member.
*get rainchecks whenever possible and use it on bonus days such as 15x or 20x or spend X amount to receive Esso or Movie passes
*check www.glow.ca for product specific bonus pts

    Please provide your tips.

So to get to the Optimum plus membership how many points do you need? Also if you redeem them then are you back to being regular?

You need 10,000 REGULAR pts to get to Optimum plus status. That equals to spending $1000 there a year. But if you buy g/c and than shop with it, you will only need to spend $500/yr to get to Optimum plus status. The regular points get reset once a year so you must qualify again for the following year. So for example, if you qualify in June of this year, you will have Optimum status from June, 2009 to Dec, 2010 but your points will reset on Jan 1st of 2010 so you can requalify again for 2011.

There are two things SDM keeps track of when it comes to points. The ones you earn to redeem and the ones you earn to get you to Optimum plus. E.g. if you earn 1000 regular points and use it to redeem for things, you still have 1000pts that is counted towards your optimum plus status. The points is only taken away if you return the item that gives you the points to begin with.

    Hope that helps!

You mean for the Optimum plus status? I have not yet qualify for the Optimum plus status so can't say for sure but I know that they send out coupons for bonus points and when you redeem your points on bonus days, you get back about half of the points that you redeem. E.g. redeem 75, 000 pts, get back 40, 000 pts. So you only spend 35000pts to get $200 off on bonus days. Very good deal

You mean they send out coupons to get extra points on bonus days? I'm an Optimum Plus member, and I've never received any coupons like that. They do give you 10,000 points back when you redeem 75,000 though, that's automatic when you have Optimum Plus. I just did this for the last bonus redeption day (here in NS we got a bonus $20, woop dee doo), but didn't get 40,000 points back, only 10,000.

Please don't quote me on this as I haven't yet qualify for optimum plus status. I know for a fact that they send out coupons but the specifics have only been what I heard from others. I could way off or it might depends on province. Don't know for sure.

That is true. You cannot purchase g/c with points. But you can buy g/c, get points on that and then use it to buy products to get points on the products.
