skip bottle?

My baby is happy with taking milk straight from its source. With him starting day care probably around one year of age. Should I pump and give the milk to him in a sippy cup when he starts day care or should I still use bottle?
What are the signs that they are ready for sippy cup? anyone tried skipping bottles?

I have introduced a sippy to my 10 month old...around 6 months of age. She can drink water and juice from it, but only in sips and then eventually just starts to play with it. She still drinks milk from her bottle. My doctor said wait until food is her main diet and not milk and then start giving milk in the sippy so even if she only sips and drinks half a glass its ok. Right now they need to be drinking way more milk than just sips...so I'm going to keep giving the bottle for now. Hope this helps.

As long as he can keep up with the flow, I'm sure there is no harm in moving right to the sippy cup instead of the bottle....one less thing you have to fight to get rid of.

I have 3 kids and only one used a bottle. Try giving him water in a sippy cup and see if he likes it. He will let you know what he wants. My middle son (the only one who had a bottle) never took a sippy cup he did not like the spout and went straight to a regular cup!

I weaned my oldest just before his first birthday, and he went right to a sippy, no bottle. We started using the sippy cup around 9 mos with water and juice, and then started cow's milk (homo) at 11 months. NUBY makes a sippy with rubbery top, sort of like the nipple for a bottle, Walmart sells them. That's what we used until DS started chewing them, then we moved to a hard top one (also by NUBY). I've found that the NUBY cups are the cheapest, and the they work very well!

Zach started drinking water around 6 months in a sippy, it all depends on the child.

Just like some kids never take a pacifier, some use them till a year and eek sometimes you see a 5 yeard old with one.

I'd skip the bottle at this point if I were you. When he's a year old he can just have regular milk right? No need to pump unless you really want to. One less thing to have to 'break' him of later!

My son never really used a bottle much, and we went right to a sippy before he was in daycare. He still nursed after he got home, but I think it was more a comfort thing for him. He didn't really need me for nutrition at that point.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Since I got the free Avent sippy cup, I will try it before I go buy the Nuby one. I agree to try sippy cup too so I don't have to go back and wean him off bottles again. Hope it will work out.

Two out of my 3 kids never took the bottle and went right to sippy (starting at about 8 months). It was frustrating at the time, but when I didn't have to deal with bottle weaning at all, it was totally worth it. My kids never liked the Avent, after being breastfed, they needed something with an easier flow. My guys liked the Tupperware cups with lids (or that style, where it basically drips out if you tip it upside down).

Sippies are hard for a kid to get the hang of at first. We had to work on showing our son how to tip it up to make it go!

I eventually started using the el cheapo sippies, I think they were called Take n Toss? No huge loss if you lost one, and easy to find a lid since they come in a pack of four or something. But DON'T use these while your child is in the throwing stage, the lids will NOT stay on! Also, keep an eye on the lids - the plastic will eventually crack and can give your child a little pinch in the mouth.

Another thing about sippies - I remember giving my boy orange juice in one not long after he learned how to use one. He'd drink a bit of it, then get got really mad at it, maybe throw the cup. I noted he was having a bit of a meltdown every time he'd get orange juice and didn't understand what was going on. Turns out, the pulp was clogging the spout! Poor guy would suck and suck on it and wouldn't get any.

I have been trying the sippy cup on my son since he was 6 months old(now almost 9 months), and he can't seem to get the hang of it. Would rather just play with it. LOL! I am still breastfeeding and would really love to skip the bottle altogether. So I will just keep trying the sippy, and hopefully he will get used to it.

Just an update.
I ended up buying a Nuby sippy cup for him. It took him a few days but he finally got the hang of it. I have only been giving him water with the sippy cup though. I suspect he will also drink milk from it? It also comes with a nipple too.

my son is 8 months and refused the bottle altogether so i went straight to sippy. he still has a hard time with the sippys with the valves, but he can drink from the cheaper wash n toss ones without the valves no problem. sometimes he gets a little too much fluid but i just watch him with it. i think that he doesnt realize he needs to suck alot harder for the ones with the valves so he doesnt get any liquid and gets frusterated. so if your baby doesnt seem to get the hang of the regular sippies, try the cheapo ones.
