Free Canadian flag that has flown on Parliament Hill

To request a flag that has flown on Parliament Hill, you must send a written request with your name, complete home address, telephone number as well as your choice of flag.

The approximate waiting period is currently:

Flag Size Pole requirements Waiting period
Peace Tower flag 7.5' x 15' 50 foot pole 25 years
East or West Block flag 4.5' x 9' 30 to 35 foot pole 16 years

Our policy is to give only one flag per household. As these flags are paid for by Canadian taxpayers, they are given to residents and are not sent outside of Canada. Should you move before having received your flag, it is your responsibility to notify our office of your change of address so that we may update your file.

I applied for this several years ago, and got a nice letter back thanking me and explaining that it would be a gazillion years away - but the idea of this is really very nice!

requested a flag approximately 2 - 3 years ago, received a reply which said I would receive one in 16 years, so only have 14 years to wait. I do love the idea of owning a flag which one flew on Parliament though.

I requested in 2006 and they said 16 years then for one on the Peace Tower....so this is going to be a LONG wait!

My husband heard it on the news that the Parliaments flags get changed everyday. Wow!

No worries ... if you move out you can just email them and let them know your new address. They'll update your file and you don't lose your place on the waiting list
