ExpiredI've got high-end taste with a low down budget. That's probably true of a lot of us.
Lately, when I've wanted new things to "brighten" up my home, I look in the bottom or back of my closets, or roam from room to room trying to see things with new eyes.
I wanted to "freshen up" my dining area but had no budget for it. I started wandering around the house. I decided yellow and green were perky midsummer colours. I found an old yellow round tablecloth with a small stain on it that I haven't been using - (I don't have a round dining table anymore) - folded in half, it makes a great side table runner.
On it I placed a small yellow patterned "Thing-a-ma-jig" holder with some green and reddish colours from my jewellery drawer, a clear glass dessert bowl with some old pot pourri in off white (from another design-time) in a teal-green chip bowl and a clear glass star-fish from the living-room coffee table.
On the table I stacked 4 bright green placemats in 2 orange dinner trays topped with an old bright yellow cloth dinner napkin with orange rick-rack around the edge and the Tropical Wooden Salt and Pepper Shakers with Palm Trees that we received as part of a Salad Bowl Wedding Present on them on top resting on an off-white scrolled trivet on top.
What did it cost me? $0 ( And I think most of the things were either gifts or from garage sales in the 1st place)
What did I accomplish? - A new, certainly eclectic look that brightened up the kitchen. - A smile on my husband's face - (the palmtree salt and peppers were presents from his side of the family and the yellow linen napkin with orange rick-rack had been his in his bachelor years)
Sometimes instead of going "shopping" at WM or SDM or NF or CT, just shopping in your own house and using a little imagination can do the trick!.

Wow, that sounds really bright and festive! I would love to see it. You should take a pic and post it and show us. I think we could all use a little cheering/brightening up. I know I could.
I love these emoties for their colours! Sorry, new here and still having fun exloring.
Start each day with a smile!

A very good reminder, it is so true. Have done this a bunch of times, just need some guidance now and again.

VERY cool! Yup, sometimes it just takes time to think about what's hanging around, and use things in a new way!

Thanks for the inspiration! It's true though. I do this once in a long while, but I can get bogged down with the daily grind and this is a great way to renew my gratitude and appreciation of what I do have.

Can you take a pic and show us your handiwork?
I try so hard to do this, re purpose things, reuse things. I even Google images to copy. When you come up with something nice, it's like a breath of fresh air just went through the room.Last edited by AmberLab; Fri, Aug 14th, 2009 at 02:22 PM.
