Magic Number - Unlimited airtime?

Just found this in the Telus website:
The price tag for rufurbished Samsung M210 pre-paid cell phone for just $49.99, which include $50 calling credit.

Gee...looks like Telus just want to give away free phones and gain market share.
Doese anyone own this Samsung M210,is it's a decent phone? free items without contract is always hard to resist.

BE CARFUL, I called magic number. they have restrictions on areas. RURAL ONTARIO it will not work.... Wish it would, it would be a great plan to add to cell phone.

Update: Magic Number has changed the "Activation Fee" waiving period. Now it is open (no deadline) for all new customers. Previously it was limited to activations prior to Dec. 2009.

1). The service itself is pretty good but their billing policy is not users friendly enough. Just because they only accept credit card payment and I never give out my credit card numbers over the internet, so I have no choice to use pre-paid credit card to subscribe their service. Purchase one Vanilla Mastercard at $25 and Vanilla will charge extra $3.95 service fee (the extra fee almost equal to ½ months of Magic Number service which is ridicules).
2).Magic Number block my service yesterday and with a prompt in my cellphone. I just realize that my credit card does not have sufficient amount to cover my service fee for this month. I immediately logon their website to give them a new credit card numbers, and guess what ? When I call them, their CSR said it may take up to one business day to resume my service back to normal. Because they rely everything through scheduled automation system, so she can’t manually immediately reconnect my service as I wish. Which mean I need to pay the regular rate 25 cents/mins for my today’s service, WTF…….
My conclusion is that if you like to use pre-paid card to sign up service with them, you may want to think it over again!

I signed up for Magic Number yesterday. So far so good. It took about 10 minutes from the time I signed up on the Magic Number website, until they responded with my new number. Call quality has been very good....no difference between what I had with Telus.

Just found that Magic Number add an option as $7.95/mo. but it's for one year pre-paid only. If you pay buy monthly, the price still 8.95/mo.

I see that too. They also have it for the 2-year term at $6.95 now prepaid. I am currently on month-to-month, and the service and quality have been excellent. This is completely worth it for me as long as Telus keeps their one-number pay as you go.

I am a newbie and following this service a for while, today finally shot my first post here.

My question is that, you already sign up Magic Number for almost 3 months, can you give us some update on the stability side? I know you already happy with quality when you you have it,but we would like to know how stable of their service.

Well, since I signed up, only once did I not have a connection...and that was only for 10 minutes at 7am in the morning....but other than that, the service has been excellent, same call quality as I had with Telus (very good), and very quick and friendly customer service. I highly recommend MagicNumber.

I purchased a $100 Pay&Talk credit with Telus (expires after 365 days), and then setup MagicNumber on my SmartCash MBNA credit card. No problems at all. I love that it is no contract. I have thought about signing up for a 1 or 2 year prepaid with Magic Number, but I would only save an extra $1-2 a month....chump change. I prefer no contract.

I was SO SICK of getting raped by the cell companies!!!Finally if you use your head and don't mind figuring some things out there is a way to fly under the radar and get a phenomanal deal on cell service.
I am now doing this. Heard about it last fall on this thread. I bought a Telus refurbished phone online for 69 bucks. That came with a 50 dollar credit. Signed up online, got my unlimited to 1 number feature then got my magic number. Been using it for the last 6 weeks or so and I have to say that it is AWESOME!!!

Basically unlimited incoming and outgoing. My total costs per month are 7 dollars unlimited 1 number, .75 cents 911 charge plus gst pst .93 cents=8.68 dollars plus magic number(i pay monthly) 8.95 plus gst pst 1.08=10.03 So 8.68+10.03= 18.74 WOW! You just CANNOT BEAT THIS!

The ONLY drawback is you don't get CID when people call your magic number BUT to my surprise after your magic number rings 4 or 5 times and you don't answer it goes to your telus voicemail!!! Which is just great! Since it is going through your magic number you don't pay when people leave messages! Also to retrieve your messages just call your magic number then call your telus phone number and you won't pay to retrieve them either! If you REALLY need CID you can always give people your telus number and tell them to let it ring a couple of times and hangup then you can see who called but it's better to just give them your magic number and tell them leave their number and a message.

Also you have to receive texts on your telus number and those cost you .20 cents a peice. I rarely text so this is not an issue for me but if you do text a lot I think you can buy a 5 dollar text package that gives you 250 texts, not sure on this so you'll have to check.

Setting up dialing is exactly as explained by wildcat007 on the 1st page of this thread peice of cake. You also get FREE long distance to most major centres in Canada! Wow! Call quality is perfect!
For calling into the states if it's a businiess I just call my magic number and then 1-800-goog411 and use the google 411 free service it's awesome. For a residential call into the states I bought a 10 dollar credit with Keep Calling which gives me around 667 minutes it's only 1.5 cents/minute to the US and the minutes NEVER expire! You just call their local area number after dialing your magic number and then dial your US number.
The whole thing is just fantastic! I love it. Thanks to wildcat007 for spelling it out so perfectly!

My New finding on Magic Number!

Although Magic Number web site said they do not support Text massages. Today I just found that The Magic Number actually can "hear " incoming Text massage.

One of my friend who just send a text massage to me from her cell phone, then I received a incoming call from my magic number, as soon as I pick it up, it play an audio version of the text message she just typed.

My first reaction is log-in to my Telus account...Da Da ...because that audio calls also came from my Magic Number, so, which is FREE as well !!!

They just launch a new service called " Smart Number " for smart phone only.

Too bad,I do not have a Smartphone or ipod to try it. In case anyone who want to try that service ,please remember to share your experience with us .
