Using Gift Cards at SDM - a question

In December right after Christmas they had a promo where you got X points (cant remember the amount) when you used your gift card (I think it was min. $20 gift card).

Is that what you were thinking of?

I buy a giftcard EVERY MONTH and use it to pay for bus pass and bus tickets.

Me too. I buy three passes monthly, which add up to $162. So I buy a gift card for that amount first (well, usually more because I'm buying other things too), get the points on that, then use the gift card to make my purchases. I buy GCs for lotto too. There's a PLU on the back of the card, so if you keep the same one, you can just tell them to add on whatever amount you want. If they look at you with a blank expression or say it can't be done, or try to print off a help menu from the register that will NOT work, point to the back of the gift card.

I use up GCs all the time, no bonus points for that. If there were, I'd get 50 $2 gift cards and use them like that! Heehee.

You don't get the 10x/15x/20x bonus points when buying an SDM gift card. Only regular points are awarded.

For other gift cards they sell in their 'Gift Card Mall', you don't get any points at all.

Now that brings up another question (which I'm sure has been asked and answer a KAJILLION times before) can you use a SDM gift card to purchase the other gift cards they sell? I believe the answer is NO. Just like you can't use SDM GC to purchase tobacco products, stamps, bus passes, etc.

i bought a 50.00 stitches gift card when they had thier promo and i got 5000 bonus points and 500 regular points...so i thought you did get points??

Wow that's so awesome Erica, I didn't know you could buy GC with a GC!! Nor did I know you could purchase bus tickets, or lottery. I hope your post and the other posts will set the record straight.

i buy gc's all the time, then buy Esso gift cards with them to gas up the car,,,and i buy stamps with gc's all the time to. also, whenever the hubby wants to go to the hardware store, i buy SDM gc, then Home Hardware GC with it and send him on his way. We often eat at Montanas, or Kelseys restaurants, same thing...i collect sdm pts on almost everything i buy including;

lotto 649
subway
kelseys/montanas
gas/propane for bbq
old navy
home hardware centers
stamps
ANYTHING i can buy from Shoppers Drug Mart

WOW Really? that's awesome! I was so sure I had read on this forum somewhere that SDM stopped giving points for purchasing GC from their GC mall and that they only give points for SDM GC (which is also news to some SDM cashiers because most of them think you can't get points for just buying a SDM GC). Anyhoo, I edited my original post because I don't want to confuse people by leaving the incorrect info there. Thanks for letting us all know.
