Thread: Sobeys Scanning Code of Practice
-
Fri, Jun 5th, 2009, 12:02 PM #1
I was shopping a sobeys last night (thursday around 8:30pm) and noticed an employee was racing around putting up sale signs, when he was almost done, I told him that I should have just followed him around to find all the deals. He told me that the prices was not in effect until midnight, so it would scan full price until then. He didn't know about the Scanning Code of Practice! Unfortunetly I didn't keep track where he changed the signs, and all of last weeks sale signs were still up, so all I got was free lettuce
. But it may be worth while keeping an eye out for similar happenings the day before a new flyer week!

I wouldn't have bothered. Afterall, the sale is going on the next day. Really, it is the evening and there is a lack of customers. Plus, they are closing in an hour and half, so I would think that would be okay. Meh.

BAS***DS!!!!
At the one I shop at they ALWAYS have errors...They call for a supervisor...Thats right a SUPERVISOR to do price checks. (crazy) Everyime they come back with a smirk and a reason why I'm wrong. It happened with baby wipes 2 weeks ago. They had them stocked in 2 places, same item. One tag was clearance. Grabbed those ones(DUH) was told not clearance by supervisor cus wrong size...so I was wrong even though THEY stocked them wrong. Didn't buy them. Sorry. Had to vent. I now foresee many more SCOPs in my future.....

Can someone please help me with this? I have only heard about this scanning code of practice TODAY (saw the acronym the other day on another post...) and I was doing my own google search and found an article on , , and our own: http://smartcanucks.ca/canadian-code...rice-accuracy/
Every link that is given on these sites (that should lead to participants, or the actual code) does not work. Can anyone help me find a copy of the actual code so that I too, can print this off and have it in my wallet? This is such an awesome find. I have had things scan over the price I thought on so many occassions, and usually, if I don't agree with the price, I get them to take it off the bill instead of asking for them to give it to me FREE.

Every store is supposed to have a copy of the code posted near the registers. My Wal Mart has it at the courtesy desk. The problem with the SCOP is that its actually left open to many interpretations. For instance, my store has a rule where the free item rule is only followed if the error is caught after your order has been finished. A lot of customers dont know this, so they'll point it out when it happens, in this case all we do is change the price. If you wait till you've paid, look over the receipt and THEN say something, the cashier sends you to the courtesy desk where we check with the assoc. in the dept. to make sure sizes and and everything is correct. At this point, we give you the cost up to $10. Over $10, we charge new price, minus the $10 refund value.
missbobloblaw, according to the rules, you should have gotten your item for clearance price. They knew their item was in the wrong spot and did nothing to fix it, for you bringing it to their attention they should have given you the item at the lower price. Were it my store, if it was after the transaction was finished, you would have gotten one free and any after that at the lower price. Thats how its supposed to be done. These retailers that dont follow the code are actually breaking the law and need to be reported. Sadly a lot of people still dont know about SCOP and are surprised when I tell them their item is free.

hmmm...last year (Dec. 2008) I was at The Bay & they had Cake products & they were in fancy little boxes so that you bought body was & cream together. anyway, I thought I would by these sets for my mom & SIL because they were 1/2 of $37. Each bottle is $18 to buy on its own. Anyway, when I got to the check out & she scanned them & I told her it was wrong, that there was a sign posted she argued with me. anyway, long story short I left them. next time I know what I will do!

SCOP is still a voluntary program that stores do not have to follow, except in Quebec where it is law. Although if a store does have the SCOP posted somewhere then it would be fair to say that they participate in the program and should be held to it. If they didn't honour the code, they would not be breaking the law, just their store policy. In which case you should save your receipt and contact head office.
