Exactly the same thing happened to us. It helps knowing that he had a great life, better than most do, even though it was shorter than expected.
& the good memories left behind too

so strange we felt the same way about our pets. i was a kid when i got my cat and i knew approx. how long cats lived so in my little kid head, i had figured he would be my baby until my mid-twenties. when he passed i was in shock. a good/bad lesson on how life doesn't go as planned, i suppose.

LOL, I love dogs! never met a dog I didn't like! Our family dog passed away a couple of years ago, but since my sister got her own mini schnauzer we babysit so often he's like my own now.

Also, I just realized sheldon would be a great dog name. Sheldon's just great
