Is this new, or just new to me?

Canada Post has a shopping guide...:

Canada Post Comparison Shopper has arrived, and we'd like to fill you in on what it has to offer! Designed for Canadians, Comparison Shopper uses advanced tools to make it easy for you to compare and buy electronics, fashion, sports equipment, health and beauty products - and more!

    Search:
Search via category, retailer, brand or discount level.

    Compare:
Compare hundreds of Canadian and US retailers for the
best deal. Plus, see all prices in Canadian dollars.

    Shop:
Only see retailers that ship and sell to Canadians.

    Looks interesting....?

    Oh...here's the link:

    http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/

I just looked around and when they price a US item, they show us what the "import fee" is.....wish they also showed 'shipping' which almost doubles the price at retailers such as Overstock .com or certainly makes it not worth ordering when the shipping is added on. :-(

What's neat is this thing tracks sales!

E.g., I was looking at an item at Canadian Tire through the CP Comparison Shopper and it had a graph showing the weeks the thing had been on sale on the last few months and when it was full price. ($25 vs $60)

I have been picking up kitchen items at CT when they have 60%-70% sales and this thing definitely will make finding the things I have been following on sale easier.

Yes it's new they just announced it in the paper a week ago or so:

Thanks for mentioning I like it!

I have been coming across the new tool all week, as I've been buying new running shoes during the seasonal sales. What I wondered about is how they figured the import fees. I know some of the companies listed use UPS, and the import fees were MUCH higher (typical UPS b.s.) for me on past purchases. So, I'm wondering how much to rely on the import fee aspect. Otherwise, great/handy new tool!

Ive known about it for a long time but the usa deals import fees are ridiculous. As for Canadian deals those are here, why go to Canada Post for that.

I noticed this when I was shopping for a new projector last week, I like the fact that they include duty fees when shopping from the US and the graph is nice to see and compare.

UPS can be a bad experience but there seems to be two scenarios.

Some stores have a simple relationship with UPS (it's their shipper) and in this case seller charges you (item + shipping) and UPS bills you for (tax + duty) + (ridiculous brokerage fee).

Some sellers have a more integrated relationship with UPS and in this case the seller gives you a bill for (item + shipping) + (tax + duty) and you do not get a brokerage fee charged by UPS to you. E.g., Land's End. Shipping fees are low and the general UPS experience is pleasant. (I was shocked too)

Depending on country of origin you can avoid duty. Assuming you are shopping in the US, US-made items commonly do not have duty but if the stuff originated in China, Germany, whatever (different trade agreements) you will have to pay duty. - Except the duty-free port of Hong Kong! It costs more for a bus ticket to the mall than it does to get mail from HK, and I can get a strip of 5 watch batteries for a buck or two vs. The Source's extractive prices. (Regular mail though not UPS, usually takes 3 weeks)

I've also noticed CanadaPost popping up when I search for prices on Google. Seems to work great. I'm shocked CanadaPost would be trying to save us money!
