Every day when you get up do you get excited thinking about the fact that you will be at work soon?
Or do you just dread waking up and saying to yourself "XX Years left until I can retire".
Also, describe a little bit about what you do at your job.
I will post mine in a bit! This thread is currently associated with: N/AMatt

unfortunately Im stuck in a retail job because the industry i went to school for is super hard to get into.
I work in a big retail store (not big box tho)
I honestly like my job.... for the most part.
what i dont like is the a) catty women i work with b) the stupid, rude, mean, cheap customers.
I honestly dont know whats worse, being annoyed with catty women at work, or being screamed at by a middle aged woman/man because we dont sell an item theyre looking for, were sold out, etc etc.
what i do like is helping the nice customers, building displays, interacting with my nice co-workers
we honestly need more men at my work place (we're very female dominated)Check out my blog =) http://acrazycouponerdealfinder.com/

Contrary to what people may think from reading my status, I absolutely love my job! I work for the federal government. I am pretty ambitious so I am applying for higher positions. But for now, at only 23 years old, I think I'm pretty far ahead and I don't take that for granted.
I think liking or hating a job is about the people you work with. Honestly, if I had this job and did not like my coworkers I think I would be one of those people that would dread getting out of bed too. It's boring work, but my coworkers make all the difference.
That being said, I worked retail with really great people but it gave me panic attacks because I just can't deal with constantly being yelled at for things out of my control (and not being able to yell back!).Last edited by papillon; Sat, Nov 12th, 2011 at 07:31 AM.

I absolutely LOVE my job. I get to make people happy by saving them money or helping with their existing financial problems. I love getting creative in solving problems. . .and of course. . it's kind of like glorified Bargain shopping! lol
Of course, there's always a down side. . .lots and lots of paperwork. . . and irregular pay structure. blech!

I'm not working now, but when I was teaching I absolutely LOVED my work - especially when I was teaching elementary grades, but also when I taught ESL, adult upgrading, computers - I just loved being an educator.
Every day was new and special, was always eager to go to work.
Prior to that I worked as a print journalist - loved the writing, the staff, the company - hated the hours and poor wages.
Before that I worked as a receptionist and secretary to three professionals at a regional College - the work was routine and kinda dull, but the workplace and its people were fab, so that made each day at work great.
Have had other jobs too - and now that I think of each of them, I never had the feeling of not wanting to go to work each day - gah, I'm such an optimist!

I'll post mine now.
I work for the largest Nickel Producing company in the world.
I am a Mining Engineer and work at one of their mines.
Everyday I wake up, I am stoked to go to work. It is always something new. Get to go underground lots and develop new ways to mine. There is a lot of complex thinking involved and there is high stress to meet production/company requirements, but the money, benefits, pension, etc are unreal.
I wouldn't trade it for the world.Matt

I start my new job in 2 weeks (RN in a hospital). I just graduated this year but have had several clinical placements in various hospitals and units around the GTA (greater toronto area). I can agree with papillon in that the people you work with really make the difference between loving and hating you job. I've worked with other nurses who didn't really care about patients or their job, doctors who were snobby and talked down to nurses; patients who yell, snap their fingers for attention and who are extremely demanding. Although these things come with working in a public service profession there are also many things I love. Being able to see people's health improve, chatting to patients about their life experiences, and being able to advocate for them in ways that will make their time at the hospital a better one. Overall, I love being a nurse and I look forward to my shifts because I will always see something different, exciting and sometimes wierd... guaranteed!! LOL!

Good luck with your new position, clementine! I have two sisters who are RNs, and they both love their work - the patients, and staff.

I work at London Drugs. So heck yes I love my job! As with all retail jobs though, it comes with its' share of stresses, especially now that it's the holiday season.
People can be very mean and rude to cashiers, but you just have to try to shrug it off.

I am on a disability now, and am so very sad that I can no longer work. I loved my work, it was my passion. I even won 3 awards through our school district for my work. I still get calls from so many of the kids I worked with. I was in a junior high, high school combimed and I would be there in a second again if I could.

Be nice to someone on SC today, pay it forward

I'm on disability, but I do work/volunteer a few hours a week at a theatre. I LOVE what I do (or I wouldn't be volunteering to go in on days they can't pay me).
What is the best part of the job?
- helping patrons enjoy their experience with live theatre (everything from simply greeting them to having discussions about the performances afterwards)
- being able to hang out with a lot of thespians, from the old pros to the young emerging artists I work with
- being able to get my fill of live theatre (I'm a junkie when it comes to watching plays - I can never get enough!)
What is the worst part of the job?
- patrons who have an air of entitlement - if you wouldn't appreciate having folks climb over you to get to their seats during a heart-wrenching scene, why should you be allowed to do so simply because you were late (300+ folks managed to get there on time
)
- patrons who seem to think they don't actually have to stand if they buy a standing-room ticket (sorry, but standing room tickets are only sold when the show is sold out - just because there are empty seats in the theatre, doesn't mean they're up for grabs, someone has actually paid for them & no, you cannot slip me a $20 & "upgrade" yout ticket - I'm not going to resell someone else's seat) - can you tell this is my biggest pet peeve?
- patrons who have zero respect for others (if you are sitting in the front row, 3ft from an actor, should you really text, chat, snore, put your feet up on the stage or make out with the person beside you?! oh, & if you wouldn't throw used tissue on the floor at your work, why do it at mine???)
So, to recap, best part is getting to watch plays, worst part is dealing with cranky people. Overall, I get excited going to work.
