OK, I fail, I'm over my 75$ again... by 7.72$

But I'm not sure I will go for coupon hunting in the next couple of weeks. Christmas is too close and store start to have angry people too stressed for christmas shopping. I hate to be in the store with that kind of people so I will stay at home and used my stockpile.

Now the pantry is full, both fridge are full, and freezer is full also. The only thing I will need in the next couple of weeks will be milk and some fresh fruits and veggies. Pharmaprix/SDM will probably have a 20x event on dec 10, so I will go and grab my milk, will see fruits and veggies deals but I'm not sure I will go to Sami fruit before christmas.

Christmas gift are done for all the kids (mine, nieces and nephews)... I need to finish my homemade gourmet basket gift for the adults. I have made some grenadine syrup this week with my pomagranit for the basket.

In 2009 and 2010 my basket were looking like this:

I was so looking forward to your week 8 thread; I learn so much from you . First of all, your gifts are beyond amazing, much prettier than any food gourmet baskets I've ever seen even in specialty shops! The grenadine syrup looks absolutely beautiful! Almost too nice to actually use . Now if you would start giving virtual cooking lessons, I would be all set .

Considering the full price, I think for the amount and the variety of groceries you got in all for 82.72$ is incredible! Thank you so much Ontest for sharing this with us.

    Thanks Mila

I like to do the basket with my homemade stuff... And I started to can 10 years ago because I wanted to save on yummy jam and jelly. Some years ago I realised that I could also use my jar for christmas basket gift... My stuff is absolutly not less better than what is in all the basket we found in store for a so overpriced amount at this time of the year! Usually my basket cost me between 15-20$ of raw product (jar, lid, bottle, basket, paper to wrap, fruits, veggies, sugar, spice, ect) but of course I need to take the time to do it

For this year, I will have the grenadine syrup, candied ginger, jalapeno pickled in our homemade cider aged of 8 years, red sweet pepper roasted in olive oil, Lilac flower jelly, monarda flower jelly and probably squash caramel.

For this week grocery shopping, I don't buy milk (we still have only 1 1/2 4L bag at home) because we can't redeem for milk at Pharmaprix/SDM in Qc. But I buy alot of soy milk this week as a compensation. Anyway we enjoy soy milk here (very good with cereal and many other way) and kids really like this. And I buy a bunch of cheese also as compensation for milk. We are big fan of cheese here and I'm sure we have enough calcium! In fact I need to "control" some dairy intake here with the kids to avoid anemia due to over calcium intake (calcium is in dairy product) that interfert with iron intake! (DD#2 was having a problem like that when she was 2 yrs-old... Discorvert when she had a hospitalisation for a gastro 4 yrs ago. But she was drinking more than 40 oz of milk per day we decrease it and everything was coming back perfectly)

OP, I agree with you about how some shoppers are a little crazy and mean at this time of year. My coworker gave me a tip - take off a couple of hours off work, midweek and try to shop then. Less people. Less stress. Less "crazy".

This is a good tip. myself I didn't work for now and decided to stay at home with my 4 kids. But I don't like to go in store with my 2 DS in winter! And try to take avantage of Pharmaprix/SDM with my grocery planning... usually the event and redemption are in the week-end And I'm living at 30km from the stores.

Anyway, I have enough stuff and prefer to let my stockpile go down a bit. In my mind I realised and concretised the saving when I used the stuff in my stockpile not just contemplating it

My only need will be milk. As soon as we will have a 20x event at SDM I will go and grab 8-10 bag 4L milk (32-40L) for the next 2-3 weeks.
