My $0.05 Zellers Brag!

This is my first ever brag. Here's what I got for the princely sum of 5 cents:

6 X Stayfree panty liners
2 X Joint Health Dog Treats
4 X Oxy Face Pads

After considerable debate with the store clerk I convinced them that it was OK for me to use a coupon whose value exceeded the price on the product so long as they rang it in at the price of the item. (I tried explaining that Zellers was going to get back the full value of the coupon, regardless of whether they rang it in for the sale price or not, but I fear my explanation fell on deaf ears!).

I'm not entirely sure what transpired next as the clerk proceeded to ring in my coupons at the sale price of the items (i.e., my Stayfree coupons were $2 but the item was on sale for $1.99 so they rang them in at $1.99). Somehow they screwed up and ended up only using half of the coupons but came up with a total of $0.05. I handed over a nickel, smiled sweetly, and ran! According to my receipt I got an extra 20% off with an HBC coupon, but I have no idea why. I don't have an HBC rewards card and had no 20% coupon... I certainly wasn't complaining!

Anyway, my dog is delighted with his treats and I am sure my local shelter will be happy with the Stayfree and Oxy products.



This whole deal was made even sweeter because earlier in the day I had endeavoured to make this purchase at a different Zellers location and, after a protracted and unproductive debate with the manager, left because they refused to accept coupons whose value exceeded that of the product.

Great shop! What Zellers did you go to? I'm planning on going down to Gloucester tomorrow night to get the Oxy deal Hope they don't give me trouble!

I went to the Zellers at Place d'Orleans and they were great. Good luck at Gloucester. I've never been to that store before. I'd be interested to know how helpful they are...

I had tried at the St Laurent store, which was where I had the unproductive discussion with the manager. The St Laurent store was also really poorly kept; the shelves were unkempt and the facings were a mess. I wrote an email to HBC Corporate to let them know how shabby the place was. We'll see if they respond!

I heard the same thing about using coupon that has a value higher than the sale price. Hmmmm...I am with ya. They get the full amount back anyway.

Carefree is similar to stayfree, but I don't believe they're made by the same company. Don't quote me on that, though. All I've used from Carefree is their pantiliners, they're comfortable and simple, moreso than stayfree I find.

Sorry, my bad. I have used the two names interchangeably but they're not the same! I said Stayfree and meant Carefree.
