SS usually has it for just over $6, so it's not something I'd pick up there either unless it was on sale.

That's how much 500g bacon is for at our local grocery store, so it's not just SDM.
    The 375g is above $5.

Pretty sure the regular price used to be around $7.99 - but it has gone up everywhere, not just Shoppers. Pretty sure Shoppers still has the occasional $3.99 sale on Schnieders. I stopped buying that kind of bacon after they shrunk the packages, and started buying PC thick cut bacon - goes on sale for around $9.99 for 1kg.

So I don't think it's Loblaws thing, I think it's a general market thing. Also, there was a movement among supplies to force stores to sell their products at higher prices (and stop them from using their products as loss leaders). Don't know what the outcome of that is/was.

Meat prices are at their highest in decades due to a decrease in herd sizes and increase in demand for meat. Drought and PED has effected the size of the herds in the US. More consumers are buying pork and chicken due to higher beef prices. The price of feed has decreased so farmers are willing to expand their herds but breeding cows instead of taking them to the slaughterhouse maintains a shortage of meat.

Dang! Good thing bacon is a luxury item in my house, always has been. It's not something we count on getting every week at the grocery store, certainly not now!

    Wow!

I guess I was shocked, still am really! I usually buy Bacon at Costco which is about $16.99 for 4x500gm packages and I consider it to be a superior product overall.

Actually, some things have gotten cheap at SDM DUE to Loblaws. PC potato chips 2/$3 is cheaper even than most other Loblaws umbrella stores There are plenty of other examples. Plus 20x the poinst on that...some pretty awesome deals

I find shoppers sales amazing!! Cheap milk everyday, cheap eggs, bread, cheese, pop, chips etc, i find much cheaper at shoppers. These items are on sale every couple weeks i find. 'Combine that with 20x events, personalized coupons etc, equals AMAZEBALLS...Lol

Agree with the two posts above .... my SDM carries a fair amount of food items ... and I've noticed lately that they are carrying more of the produce items -- tomatoes, oranges, grapefruit, apples, lettuce, potatoes, onions.... and they are all priced reasonably compared to any of our other retailers (in BC) .... I don't find it hard to spend $50 on food/staples at SDM every week - and with special offers and 20x shops it really is a nice discount

SDM is definitely not a place to buy things full price. Always wait for a sale (they have good ones).
Is that some $15 pork roast underneath it?

The only time I go to SDM is during their 20 X points ( if things are on sale & with coupon opportunities ) & 2 Day sales , and for the milk , which is competitively priced.

Their regular prices are atleast 1.5 times to 2 times of most places.
