Not all charities will give tax receipts for items donated like this so I would suggest checking first.

I run the Foodbank in Melville ,SK and we can give you receipts which is so helpful for persons wanting to make such charitable donations. Right now in SK any cash donations are matched by Potash Corp so we get double the money for our foodbank which is so great this time of year😊.

How nice you are! I'm happy to know someone is doing this too.
Our local food bank offers pick up services and they have been coming to my home monthly for donation pick up. I don't have as much as you do in one-time donation amount but my thought is every little bit counts.
    Good works!!!

Just curious, was that why you chose the Markham food bank. Did all your donations need to be on seperate receipts from your other purchases? I would like to try this as I already donate quite a bit. If I could get a tax refund, I could donate even more.

It really depends on the charity and what their "rules" are. Some don't give receipts for item donations and some do. The ones that do require receipts. Now some of those receipts will have to be donation only items or you may just be able to circle everything on a general receipt (with your other household purchases). I'd really suggest asking the specific charity you have in mind to donate to.

Yes, this was one of the reasons I chose the Markham Foodbank. The second most important reason I picked them was that I grew up in Markham and my family (Mom + 4 kids) used the foodbank regularily just to get by.

We did the same type of thing with the Aurora foodbank as well prior to this and thats generally where most of our donations went as when DH and I first started living together we had to use them as well a few times. That of course was before I found couponing and price matching and luckily that made us able to survive on our own for groceries.

Did you get a tax receipt for the full value of the product or how much you actually spent (after coupons)?
