Thanks Darth it sounds like a meaningful holiday. A few of us help with the Salvation Army meal for the less fortunate, I do baking and my daughters serve, we enjoy doing it and the camaraderie is so nice.

    eta..It's not a big family/party time..more a semi-private reflection of nature's/God's bounty.
In the US Thanksgiving is bigger than Christmas - more people travel for that holiday than any other. It is a time for family togetherness in North America.

From what I see from my family/friends, it's now a more secular give to the needy event rather than a purely religious ceremony. But helping the less fortunate is a Christian/Muslim/Jewish/other religions way as well.

I first found this in "Trains, Planes and Automobiles"..

to a Brit it was a very strange ritual.

It is nice that the tradition has evolved into a universal giving theme.
That's funny, i forgot all about that movie, it would have been strange!

Maybe being an immigrant it is hard to understand our traditions as I wouldn't be familiar with your country's traditions.
Thanksgiving to our family is to give thanks for the fall bounty and take the time to spend a wonderful day with family and friends, the food is secondary but it is a wonderful day for us. Can't think of anything I love more than all my loved ones gathered in our home and enjoying each others company. I hope I would have enough class if I was 'across the pond" not to belittle your customs and traditions.
I have some splainin to do I guess......( about the 2 birds ), it was a quick last minute decision, DH and I really really wanted try doing one the Spatchcock way, BUT we all love the look of the traditional stuffed too, so our only choice was to buy a small second one.
THAT will be our excuse for " packing it on " this year, but at least we will all be together laughing and enjoying each others company, remembering to be grateful for everything we have in our lives and not spending any part of our day belittling anyone we don't know on the internet.

Yum! I can't wait to 'pack it on' , rof. Exited to have my family together for a nice BIG meal. Leftovers are going to be awesome as well, and perfect for our school lunches (I start class on Tues.), and I *think* I may do Turkey pot pies made with phyllo pastry with the leftovers to freeze. My oldest daughter is baking/bringing pumpkin pies. Looking forward on seeing my two beautiful grandbabies! Nothing but love, good food, and great company!

I'm sitting with a doggie-with-cone on my lap trying to keep him calm about the noise in the basement from workers who are nearly done making noise. I woke up at 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep.
