I have lots of walnuts left over from my xmas baking and some maple syrup, I am stuck on ideas on what to use these 2 ingredients in, they are not part of my usual repetoire (sp?) and dont want to waste them on a new untried recipe, so if anyone has a "tried and true" recipe to use these in I sure would appreciate some suggestions.

I've made Albanian Walnut cake for my sister in law in the past. It normally has a lemon glaze but since you have maple syrup you could give that a try.
Here's a link to one http://www.food.com/recipe/albanian-...n-glaze-134667

I was going to suggest the same thing....I did a quick google...here's one from Rachael Ray:
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 2 cups (about 7 ounces) walnuts
Directions:
- In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, salt, black pepper, cayenne, ginger and cinnamon; set aside. Pour the maple syrup into a large bowl and set aside.
- In a large nonstick skillet, toast the walnuts over medium-high heat, stirring or shaking the pan constantly, until they are hot, about 5 minutes. Immediately add the nuts to the maple syrup and toss to coat. Stir in the spice mixture until the nuts are evenly coated. Spread the walnuts in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Let cool completely before serving, about 20 minutes.
But then I found this one...it seems easier
MAPLE-GLAZED WALNUTS

1/2 c. maple syrup
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. walnuts
In an iron skillet or saucepan, stir together syrup, cinnamon, butter, and salt. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture becomes brown and starts to thicken. Add vanilla, then nuts and toss until the nuts are covered evenly with glaze. Quickly spread and cool on wax paper.
You can then use the nuts to top yams for your christmas dinner, or make a cookie and pace them on top. Or just dig in and enjoy them as is
