Thread: Which Freebies have you received?

The only "problem" I ever got was using the Chapman's $5.00 coupon since the ice cream I bought was worth less than $5.00.
When I told the cashier the store would get $5.00 anyway she said that wasn't the problem, she just wanted me to get my $5.00 worth! When I said I didn't mind, she took the coupon.

Today I got lots of coupons, ocean spray, pepcid, and the great kitten package from Royal Kanin ($5.00 any cat toy, 2x$3 off food and a UPC send in offer for free cat figurine)
Guessing there could be trouble with the cat toy one.

Maybe cashiers get in trouble if they take coupons that have expired or are for the wrong product, etc... if they don't read them right.

I'm also agreeing with Cookoo that they may have not seen it before and it takes extra effort to read the VERY fine print or they don't know how to give you the discount. I'd be curious to still hear from a cashier...

yeah, i think cuckoo and spammy are exactly right! it's got to be a pain for cashiers to take the time to read such tiny print on coupons they have never seen before - and with line-ups building up behind and irate customers expecting faster service, that's got to be stressful.

also, i am certain that cashiers get in trouble for accepting coupons that have expired, are counterfeit, or were redeemed on the wrong product - if they did not personally get flak for that, they wouldn't look so carefully.

i think it's important to try to remember not to take it personally when a cashier makes a big deal out of looking at your coupon - i am sure in almost all cases, they are only trying to protect themselves and it has nothing to do with the "redeemer" - remember customer service/cashier is a female-dominated industry (yet another one with great responsibility and yet almost zero power), and when the cashiers cash out at the end of the evening, it is often to a manager (often male) who will treat them like they are stupid or irresponsible for failing to catch all the intricacies of the conditions of a coupon. therefore, a coupon appearing at the cashier's counter can only almost always represent stress for the cashier...

Make no mistake , I'll continue to use them - but I'll disregard the scowls and sneers as "not my problem".
