This is regarding the use of cadmium in children's jewellery, mostly. Highest levels have been found in US stores WalMart and Claire's.
Cadmium is used as a pigment in paint, and it is toxic.

'Cadmium is a known carcinogen. Like lead, it can hinder brain development in the very young, according to recent research.
Children don't have to swallow an item to be exposed - they can get persistent, low-level doses by regularly sucking or biting jewelry with a high cadmium content.'

'Health Canada has promised to conduct an investigation that includes sampling and testing children's jewelry for cadmium. Health Canada, which has no power to order a recall of toxic toys, has said it will take appropriate action once the investigation is completed.'
