This might be of interest to avid gamers. Libraries actually include games for Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation2 and 3, and Wii as part of their "collections". Selection probably varies according to library (local, post-secondary), but it might be worth a try if you want to try a game before spending money to purchase the actual game. Try searching your library's catalogue using the platform name (Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation2 and 3, and Wii). Have fun!

You are so lucky your library does I just checked the online cataloge and they just have books and dvd's about the system and not the actual games. That would be so awsome if they rented games to you where I live

We used to borrow Wii games all the time from the library. You can usually go online and put yourself on a waiting list and then the library will either email or call you when it is available. I think our library had a 3 day limit on games but that was more than enough to figure out if you like it and are willing to spend money on it.
Great post! I dont think people take advantage of all libraries have to offer.
FYI: you can also borrow magazines & dvd's at most libraries.

Richmond Hill Public Library does not carry them but I heard some by Markham do... makes sense that some of these libraries carry them since the funding they receive is based on the circulation of library materials so popular items like DVDs and games definitely boost up the stats

The libraries in Oshawa have them so I guess it's hit-and-miss. I borrowed Star Wars: Force Unleashed from there (...um, for the kids of course).
And someone mentioned it above, but most libraries also have a decent collection of DVD and VHS movies. And oh yeah... books too.

I used to borrow DVDs and The Sims 2 (for pc) at my local library all the time!
Like a poster above said, sometimes you can go onto the library's website and request a game (or anything in the library) so even if your local library doesn't have it, you will be put on the waitlist and they will transfer the item to your preferred library location.

I've checked games out at the Legends Centre, but I'm pretty sure they're at most of the branches. The cases are stored on the same shelves as the movies (it's a pretty small section, easy to miss), and they keep the actual games behind the circulation desk. Easiest thing to do is ask what they have available.
