Anyone wearing purple today? I am!

Its been decided that on October, 20th 2010, we will wear purple in memorial of the GLBT youth who have committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ and that's exactly what we'd like all of you to have with you: Spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Wearing purple on the 20th in no way means you're a homosexual. It just means that you support the LGBTQ community, and that you are against homophobia.

Please wear purple on October, 20th 2010. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

I have a bit of purple striping on my shirt today. It's pretty quiet at work here today. Two of those listed above were found behind our office a few weeks back.

Many of our agency wear purple in October as it is Child Abuse Prevention month as well and it is symbolized by a purple ribbon campaign.

Good for you Robyn. My youngest is a member of the GSA at her school.
I'm not wearing purple today cuz I didn't know, although yesterday I did wear purple but again that was a colour choice based on the fact it was the next in line on the rack...lol. So I sort of supported the cause unawares. But it is a good cause nonetheless.

Wow, its such a tragedy that this is happening in what should be a more open society. We are long past the days of "hating" our fellow men and women for being labelled as "different", however hate is probably at an all time high right now.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if humanity grew to learn to work together rather than against eachother... one can only imagine.

Sad to hear that two of the above mentioned were found so close to your place of work.

By wearing purple you support being against homophobia.
But what does the black support.
Or is it the purple that supports you.

Maybe cos black is the traditional colour denoting death?...and we can add a former gradeschool classmate of mine to that list of lost young souls.....he couldn't bear to come out, so he killed himself at 18 years old....
.....oh my, how could I forget here???....my BFF's son came back to his uni last year after a weekend at home, and found his roomie dead after a weekend of drinking and pills...the roomie had just come out the previous week....it's an epidemic....
....anyone remember that Jenny Jones talk show, where people were brought on the show and introduced to unknown "crushes"?.....even tho the people were told it could be a crush of either sex, all seemed to be Ok with it.....except the one guy who murdered his male "crush"....how sad a state of affairs is it, when you would prefer be known as a murderer, rather than gay?!?!?....geeze.....TR
