Well I want to get it done myself, but my father is totally against the whole thing...personally it's definately worth it...but you should get it done if you've had a stable prescription for a while......I myself don't have a stable prescription...so I have to wait until I do...I checked out some sites and they said that you get a stable one around in your twenties...or some people just don't get a stable one.

I heard that it is painless..and it sounds entirely better then going under the knife :?...but for now I'll stick with contacts...until I can persuade my dad otherwise.

I want to get it done... I asked about it at my last eye appt last week. My doc says that I have to wait about 3 years to make sure that my eyes are stable enough.

I'm one of those nuts who thinks laser eye surgery will make your eyes fall out in 30 years or some such horror. lol..

But seriously - they can't know the long term side effects as it hasn't been around long term yet. That's why I won't get it.

My stepfather has had it done, and he now has to wear glasses for night driving (apparently this is common for most laser eye patients, or so he tells me). So don't assume this is a 100% fix.

Mind you, I'm so in the dark ages I'm only now considering contacts for the first time.. We'll have benefits in a mnoth or so, and I think I've finally gotten the courage to poke myself in the eye. It only took 10 years of eyewear!

I've been wearing glasses for just over 20 years. I've used contacts and it takes so much work... and if you're female and on the pill it often causes problems with the contacts. I'm just so sick of my glasses, I would not mind just a couple of years glasses free, or at the very least not such strong prescriptions.

My prescription is really bad... severely near sighted plus damage to the optic nerve. I also have an astigmatism and I was able to get contacts.
Check with your eye-doctor... the worst they can say is no. At least you'll get a check up out of it.

Well I'm also 16, and I have contacts..actually I first got them when I was 14...so I don't think age is really a factor....there are a lot of people my age who have contacts..practically everyone in my school does....

Do you mean that on your prescription your doctor says that you can't get contacts?

Maybe it says 'not for contact lenses' because what I know from my experience (because unfortunately I need glasses/contact lenses) is that the contact lens prescription is different from glasses one. I asked the optician once why that is, he said that this is because glasses sit about 12 mm from the eye while contact lenses sit right on the eye. In order to compensate for this distance between the lens and the eye, the prescriptions are different (and as far as I remember the contact lens prescription is lower since its closer to the eye)

    Hope this helps!

oh and as for the age, I started contact lenses when I was 13.

I think the main point is that they need proper handling/cleaning etc but at 16 I think it's no problem. As iced_faerie said, many 16 year olds wear contacts!
