It's a great investment, tasha. Remember, though, except for the tomatoes, which can be frozen as is - the majority of vegetables need to be blanched, or cooked a bit, before they are frozen.

Biggest tip I can give you - DATE anything you are freezing, then you aren't guessing later!

Congrats on getting your freezer! - They are so helpful especially when you see a great deal. My Hubbie always scours the meat shelves for 1/2 off deals and we then freeze them and use later. You've got the right idea about freezing what's available locally - that's such a good idea! I've been thinking that we need a second one but we have no basement and it would have to go in the shed. I don't know about the wisdom of that.
I was at RCSS yesterday and they had a small freezer on sale - very small - but I think it was only $144.00. - could fit in a closet if you double up on clothes and hang them high.

That is great! I just got a freezer off Freecycle. I posted asking for one and someone responded. It's in pretty rough shape but it will get me by until I can save up to purchase one. Enjoy your shiny new freezer!

Awesome deal for you! You can save a bunch by buying meat etc when its on sale (ie, NF had boneless chickhen breasts on for 1/2 price) I stocked up my fridge freezer, lol
Years ago I bought a small used one at garage sale (good condition) for $100 bucks & it lasted me almost 10yrs! Poor thing gave out last year tho! Now I store extra stuff at mom's or my neighbours, until I can get a good deal!
Not much room in my fridge freezer as I have boxes of Tenderflake pie/tarts shells for my baking, LOL

A freezer is definitely on my list of things I want to have one day when I am in a house. I only have the freezer above my refrigerator... I am not married and don't have kids, but it is a pain when stuff goes on sale for an incredible price and you have to pass on it because you don't have the space to put it

I love my freezer too it`s so packed with good deals (10 loaves of almost free bread, tons of frozen fruit, veggies, meat sales, etc)
